A Big Hello to all my new friends (no pun intended)
My name is Donna. I'm from the beautiful foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.
I have 2 children. My daughter is grown (22) and has moved out. She owns her own business in Graphic Design. My son is 11, in the 5th grade and has autism. He has come from being severely effected to a wonderful, creative, bright, loving young man. I am so proud of him!
3 months ago I started becoming VERY winded upon climbing the stairs, along with some pressure in my chest. I was concerned. Had several tests run, and they could find nothing. Finally my Doctor sent me to do a stress test, and there was some blood flow issues in my heart. Next was a heart cath, where they found my coronary artery to be 95% blocked. They inserted a stent.
Though my cholesterol is not too bad (211) my triglycerides are very high. That could come from drinking cokes all day and not eating until dinner, you think? Well...not any more! I'm a new woman!
So, I am no longer dieting to lose weight (thought that will be a nice side effect) but I am eating healthy to LIVE. My son still needs me around for a while, and I plan to be here for him.
I write for a magazine (Autism Spectrum Quarterly). I have my own column called "Quirks and Perks", detailing some of the quirks and perks I experience raising a child on the spectrum.
Looking forward to getting to know you all on this journey!
Donna
