Arrow Escaping hopelessness...hopefully!

Hi all! I am looking for a friendly community to keep me positive and motivated. I have been trying alone to lose weight for 20 years.

When I was 13 and NOT at ALL overweight, my (extremely fit and slender) mother patted my leotard-clad back and said, "Honey, you're getting a little bit of a bra line. Maybe we should put you on a diet."

I'm 33 now, and I actually AM overweight, obese, actually, and I can't think of a time when I didn't feel fat, hideous, and out of control with my eating.

I have struggled with my weight for 20 years, and I'm resolved not to keep hating myself for failing. I have no illusions--losing 110 lbs is probably going to take about five years, and the longest I have managed to change my lifestyle for was three months. I had no support then, and "fell off the wagon" so to speak.

A friend suggested I find a community I liked, and I think I have.

I've been "running" (okay, walking with a few staggering steps of jog-like behavior) for five days a week for two weeks now. Lurking in your forums, too! Here's hoping that baring my soul a bit will help me believe in myself enough to really change my habits for good!

Here is a dancing carrot.

Default Welcome!

I had to reply because I love your line about a "few staggering steps of jog-like behavior." It sounds just like my own approach to running!

I think you'll enjoy 3FC. I've been checking in here for a few years - usually just lurking. I really appreciate the supportive atmosphere.

My issue is that I did lose a bunch of weight but have been seeing significant creep and would like to address that. However I've had a heck of a time going back on a diet (even when I call it a 'lifestyle change')....

Best of luck!

What foods are prone to cause you to overeat? I keep trying to be a normal person who can occasionally indulge in pasta, pizza, etc. and it's just not working for me. LOL...despite knowing it will cause a binge, I still try.

Have you decided which plan you're going to try?

Good luck.

Mojojuju: welcome! I believe that this site will offer you great support! Take a look at some of the forums and join a daily forum that will keep you motivated. I've been on my own plan for about 60 days now and on this site for about 2wks and I love it. It gave me the boost and support I needed! :-)

AZSunrise: I've come to the conclusion that it may not be safe to indulge until you are in maintenanace phase and even then only once in a while.

When I started me lifestyle change/modification program I "tweaked" a lot; however, I maintained when I went back to healthy eating the NEXT MEAL, not the next day or next week. So it helps to know I can likely do this in the future as well.

One thing I did as well is thought about all the places I like to eat and actually thought about how to modify my favorite meals. I don't even have to look at the menu :-) My plan consist of certain food groups and that makes making choices a lot easier!

Welcome to 3FC, Mojojuju!

You might appreciate the 300+ Club (for those of us who are or started out at 300lbs or more), a 100lb Club (for those of us looking to lose about 100lbs or more), a 30-something's area, and other sections for interests and things members just have in common to keep us going.

You can do this! Definitely. Can't wait to get to know you better and see you around the boards!

Thanks so much for the welcome and support already! This is such a vast site, it's good to have some guidance!

As to AZ Sunrises, I have a terrible time with sugar. It's the monster that stalks me. I'm very addicted to it, as I learned early that it helps control emotions. Stupid, evil sugar. I can't even have "diet" sugars, as even a small calorie portion can set off monster binges. I grow huge and rampage through cookie villages, tearing down package houses, grabbing fleeing crumbs, and crushing every sugary thing in my path with wanton abandon.

Mother Cookies use me to scare their children into behaving.

G-heh.
