Hi all, not exactly sure what Im looking for. I guess some help formulating a plan of attack.
Went to the doctor last week and my bp was scary high and Ive reached an all time not pregnant high of 325 lbs. Ive been unemployed for the past 4 mths and Im pretty sure thats fed my depression resulting in some serious weight gain. Going back to work isnt an option at the moment due to other health concerns. Besides, I like being home to keep up with the house work and mom duties of 3-6 'short people'. They are ages 4-20 so the daily obligations are all over the place.
I started walking, about a mile a day. Its been a week of that so I plan on moving up to 2 on Monday. Cant afford to join a gym. But the kids do have all sorts of game systems (Wii, xbox w/ kinect, ps3 w/ move) So if anyone knows of some inexpensive/ free options there please feel free to share.
I try to eat fairly healthy. My midgets are no strangers to meals made with cabbage or spinach or various other veggies. Not much of a snacker. After reading from others Ive noticed that Im not eating so healthy since I tend to end up with 1 maybe 2 meals a day on average.
All I do know is I cant be this big anymore. I have to do something. My goal is 175, but even 225 would be better than this.

Hello Mommby and Welcome!

First, you have taken an important step by joining this community. I am a relatively new member. I was a "lurker" hanging out and reading without joining for a while before I put in my first post. This is a really good community with a lot of expertise and support.

I am no expert but you have asked for advice so I will share what I did. My journey started with a diabetes diagnosis. Scared and shaken, I started medication and a lifestyle change.

I started by writing down everything that I ate. I started making small changes and moved to a diet that has small portions of lean protein and carbs, and eating lots of leafy green, and very low carb veggies. I try to avoid all sugar and processed carbs like pasta.

If you have all those gaming systems you have a great resource for starting excercise in baby steps. I started with 15 minutes per day and I thought I was going to die because I was so out of shape. If you are walking a mile, it is way ahead of where I started so good for you! I recommend the free run on the wii - you just walk in place and you can go as long as you want.

Well, I hope this helps. If you choose low carb, calorie counting, or whatever plan you choose, I would just recommend moderation and slow, sustainable changes. Again, Welcome!

Welcome! I am new too, and really loving it here. I agree with everything Riemontana said!

That is awesome that you are already walking a mile! I think walking is the best thing, especially in the beginning.

Good luck, and nice to *meet* you.

Thanks for the responses. I think I need to do a week of logging what I do eat first of all then make adjustments. I wanted to move up to two miles on monday but my shins and knees are really fighting me. I think I may stick with one mile for maybe another week. I was working on my feet for 8-13 hrs a day then did a four month complete 180. So I think my legs are just rebelling to that.

Welcome! Good luck on your weight loss journey! I have little ones too and its hard sometimes knowing we have to be such good role models even down to how we eat. But everything we do really does affect them. Nice to meet you!
