Red face Searching for Motivation

Hello everyone!

Thanks to a happy coincidence, I found a goal post here by the user Eliana. (Sorry, I can't post links. ) I then decided it was time for me to try to make a change. I have been working at it the last couple of weeks, but because of a car accident that I was in two weeks ago, it's been really hard. (I wasn't hurt or anything, it's just finances and the stress that comes with it.)

All my life, I've had trouble keeping at something, anything. I've never finished anything. I've gone to college for 4 years, but have yet to find what I'm searching for. I've been battling my weight problem since I was 11 years old, with no results.

Which is why I'm here. I hope that I'll find the right motivation to keep at it. Just to keep going even when I want to throw my arms up in the air and give up. I'm excited and scared, but I'm ready for change, SO ready for it.

"A year from now you'll be glad you started today."
Bring it on.

Hey there, and

You will be REALLY glad you started this today. I'm sorry about your car accident, but what I've found is that when things feel REALLY out of control, keeping my food and exercise on track makes me feel a lot better.

My former signature quote was that weight loss isn't about motivation, it's about commitment. Motivation will come and go. Sometimes you'll feel like doing what you need to do, and sometimes you won't. Commitment is about deciding you're going to do it anyway, because you're focused on your long-term goals.

Learning how to commit to something and follow through even when your motivation is lacking is, in my opinion, a really important life skill that can only serve you well in all aspects of your life.

In the meantime, look around...we have lots of forums to check out...by age range, amount to lose, etc. Jump on in wherever you're comfortable and get to posting. Can't wait to get to know you better!

Thank you, Morethananumber.

mandalinn82, I do believe that motivation is what gets us started in the first place, though. I agree with you, about commitment when motivation is lacking. Hopefully, I will actually commit this time and not give up like I usually do. xD (By the way we share the same name )

Another poster linked me to this. I'm so glad I was able to inspire to take a year of your life to see this thing through! I can't tell you what an amazing thing it has been for me. And when people in the real world ask me how I've done it I always tell them calorie counting and exercise, but I also must throw in that the true turning point for me was realizing this was going to take some time and that it wasn't going to be linear. It was just one of those amazing aha moments.

This is the time for you! You've discovered a really wonderful and supportive place in the community. Take full advantage of it and I can't wait to see you one year goal post!
