hello all! I'm 29 (30 in 2 months!), married for 4 years to my wonderful husband, Dave. We have 2 dogs. We've been trying to get pregnant ever since we got married and have so far been unsuccessful. I've never really, really tried to lose weight before. I found this website today and thought it might be some good encouragement and hold me accountable. I started taking Metformin about 10 days ago. I had taken it years ago and had really bad side effects, due to my high fat diet at the time. So far I haven't had any side effects, but I have done a major overhaul of my diet. I'm doing my best to keep track of my calories, lower fat, cut out all fast food and most sweets. So instead of trying fertility drugs again (that didn't work!) I've decided that losing weight is my best bet, plus I'll be healthier overall. Right now I'm considered pre-diabetic (by 1 pt) but I'm deathly worried about developing type 2 diabetes later in life. So basically with 30 staring me down, I figured now is the time

We're in such a similar place - my blood sugar keeps testing fine, but there's Type II diabetes in my family and I'm terrified of it! There's also a lot of heart disease - my father, his father, and his father all had heart attacks in their 40s and 50s, and my father's was the only one that wasn't fatal (though it did result in a quintuple bypass). Bottom line, we have LOTS of reasons to work hard and stay motivated to lose weight and get healthier, and hopefully with that success we'll see some progress with the baby making as well.
