Default New here and kind of discouraged....

I don't know how I managed to actually find this site but I am so thrilled that I did find you.

My name is Suprina. I am 37 years old. I am the mother and 4, have been married for 16 years. We started our family. I just didn't take care of myself and let my self balloon up to 277 pounds.

I didn't know how much I actually weighed because I never weighed at home and I never went to the doctor. That was until my foot gave out on me in March of this year. I dealt with the pain until my husband couldn't take seeing me in pain any longer.

He made my appointment for me that is how nervous I was to go to the doctor. I am so glad he made me go. I found out that I had Plantar Fasciitis. As well as edemia of the legs, and high blood pressure. Now, I knew my pressure was on the high side. I do get the white coat syndrome. However, every time they checked my pressure. It was sky high.

He was going to put me on blood pressure pills right on the spot. I begged him not to and that I would do anything not to be put on the pills. He told me he would give me one week. That I would have to come in every morning and have my pressure checked and be seen by him for about 10 min. He put me on a low sodium diet. I just watched my sodium for that first week. Wanting to get under 2300 mg a day. Not only did I have very good reading EVERY DAY! I lost 7 pounds that first week alone.

And I avoided being put on blood pressure pills. Since then I have had 2 check ups and my blood pressure was perfect. I have to watch my blood pressure because heart disease runs on both sides of my family.

Since June 6th I have lost 48 pounds. Which is good for me. However (discouraging part) Today, I was talking to a online group of friends. About how I no longer fit into my size 22 capris and now I were a size 18. I did take before pictures. They asked me to take a updated picture. And I did....however, you can see no weight loss. Granted, I know I am still a big girl. But I just can't tell where the weight has come off...

It discouraged me so much...that I have been in a terrible mood every since. I told my husband that I wasn't taking another picture until I hit my goal.

My daughter always compliments me and tells me, "Mom, I can tell you are loosing weight. Your stomach has shrunk. And your legs are slimming down." I have a wonderful daughter and love her for it....I just can't see it.

I posted my pictures on that forum for all to see....but immediately took them down because it just depressed me so much.

I am so glad I have found this forum. Sorry if this is so long. I guess I just needed to get it out there.

Hi and

First of all, on your loss so far and on avoiding blood pressure medication. EVEN IF you hadn't dropped weight (Which clearly, you have!!) you've done a tremendously amazing thing for your health. So don't discount that success, OK?

Second, let me tell you about a little thing our brain does called "pattern recognition and completion". Basically, our brains are designed to process visual information FAST. So they take in the basic outlines/features of a thing, and fill in the rest of the image from memory. Good for recognizing a predator on the plains quickly...not so good for recognizing change in your body!

It'll take some time for your brain to catch up. In the meantime, look around here, find a spot to jump in, and get to posting. I can't wait to get to know you better!

Please listen to Mandalinn. She is right about the pattern recognition; chances are, if you were to show the pics to other people they would instantly be able to tell that you have lost a significant amount of weight. Our eyes just can't see it sometimes, even when we KNOW that we have lost a lot.

I'm not suggesting you post your pictures; you shouldn't do that if you're not comfortable doing so. I'm just saying that I betcha it DOES look like you've lost, but that you're just not able to see it for yourself.

You are doing so well. Congratulations on facing this potentially deadly health challenge straight on, with conviction. Your hard work is paying off in a very, very real way!

Gosh, Mandalinn is SO right. Despite what you *might* think you are seeing in pics or in the mirror, our minds take much longer than our bodies to adapt and adjust to the new us.

How wonderful it is getting our bodies working properly! All WITHOUT meds. Wonder and awe awaits you my dear! Keep going!
