Red face Harsh Reality: I am FAT!!

Last night the person I am closest to did the harsh "verbal" head smack of telling me in no uncertain terms that I am fat!! Wii tells me I am obese, but my mind's eye tells me I am average. I guess I have some disorder where I really don't see how heavy I am. I guess that isn't completely true - for life's special occasions or window shopping for clothes there is no doubting that I don't look my best. I am proportionate so I hide my weight well, but no one would say that I am at a healthy weight. I give to much time to the job I have been at for 23 yrs. Heck, I started the department for the company. Now I don't have any balance. I keep saying once I get through this "project" I will be at the end of the tunnel in full light, but another project is already begun and the light dims as I get farther away from it once again. I lost weight three times before. First was Overeaters Anonymous and then twice by Weight Watchers. OA was drastic and people said I looked drawn for my wedding photos. WW is great, but it takes time and discipline. Discipline... do I use my work as an excuse? I can't exercise, plan meals and shop because I am too busy at work? Probably. Work is stressful and I have 7 years to go until retirement with a pension and medical benefits so leaving would be hard. I just want to get healthy. I really don't have anyone close to go through this with. My closest friend doesn't have a weight problem. Sometimes you have to listen to truth to make a change even it sounds so harsh and cruel (which it did). I want today to be the beginning of my life style change. Wish me luck!

Hello and welcome!
I too thought I held my weight well. I was at least proportioned for my weight. Kudos to you for being able to take the harsh reality your friend opened your eyes to. You came to the right place. These people are amazing and wise. You've taken the biggest step of all. Now just keep up the momentum! You CAN do this!

Welcome, welcome!! I too have put off losing for work reasons.. I let that be my excuse for the last 13 years, also my reason for not sticking to, or completing alot of things, I was just too busy to be healthy!! That is not a good enough excuse for me anymore, and it shouldn't be for you either!!! You are too busy NOT to be healthy!! For me I find the easiest and most effective way to eat is low carb.. I don't count anything but carbs, I am losing at a steady 2-3 lbs a week, I hope to be at my goal this time next year!! Good luck to you!!!

Welcome aboard! I totally understand the not seeing how large you are. When I got to my highest weight...I would try to move somewhere and always bump into things because in my head I was small enough to get through or to not touch anything. Another harsh reality for me was moving into a home with full length mirrors. Holy cow...I never saw my body like that before...now I totally see it and I hate it and I'm working to change it. Hope you have a great journey too! This is a great place to be.
