Starting Again

  • Hi,
I joined this forum a couple of years ago but Im real good at reading posts and seldom write any of my own. This time I want to participate. I have had a weight problem my whole life. I remember my first diet when I was 11. and I was only a nice healthy 130 lbs and 5'5 back then....lol. About 3 yrs ago I went on atkins and lost about 25lbs. I felt great and 25 lbs made such a huge difference. I was still over 200lbs but family members at Christmas said they barely recognized me. Unfortunately, when I start to feel great I loose focus and stop thinking its so important so of course I gained it back.
Then about a year and a half ago, I went on wieght watchers and again lost about 20 lbs but it was sooooooo hard and took longer than I thought it should. I would stick to the plan and lose 2 pounds one week and none the next and then 3 lbs the next week and then the next gain a pound. It was very frustrating. So again, I quit. Now....Im 15 pounds higher than my highest weight ever...except when I was 9mos pregnant. LOL.
So....6 days ago I was 249lbs and started Atkins again. I was going to wait and only weigh once a week but I gave in this morning and I have lost 5 1/2 pounds in the past 6 days! So.. I wanna do it right this time.
I am 47 yrs old and have been over 200lbs since I was 20. I have 3 grown daughters. Only one of them has a wieght problem. I have 2 grandsons, one is almost 4 and one is only 4 weeks old. I have a long term BF who is very supportive of anything I want to do but I hate to keep saying Im going to do something and then feeling like a failure when I quit so I try to not make too big a deal out of anything new Im doing.
My name is Kris and I just wanted to say Hi everyone!
  • Hi Kris,

Just wanna wish you the best. Sounds like you are off to a really nice start.

I am on the Metabolic Research Center plan (low carbs, no sugar, low sodium, high protein) and am really happy with the progress. Between August 09 to December 09, I went from a size 22 to a size 16. Seemed pretty quick, really. Still in progress at this point and look to the summer to push me down the rest of the way, as I am so much more active now, walking 20-25 miles per week.

So, anyway, if you decide you would like a very supervised program, I highly would suggest it. But it sounds like you have found something that is doing the job, so keep up the great work!
  • Hello Kris,

It's good to hear that your very motivated to start your weightloss program. I know you can do it. Keep up the good work!
  • Hi Kris, sounds like you've got the right frame of mind this time. Keep in mind that a healthy weight loss is about 2 lbs. per week, and that should be doable for most folks.

As you begin to shed pounds, you will feel better about yourself and that should motivate you to continue.

Dieting is good, but I didn't see that you had mentioned exercise. As you probably know, exercise is an essential part of any weight loss plan, and it can be fun too .

Perhaps you could find time to walk about 30 mins. per day, join a gym, and/or join an exercise class. If finances or location are a problem then don't be discouraged - there are many very good & effective exercises which you can do at home for free. If possible, I recommend a class because participating as part of a group helps to keep you focused.

Anyway, good luck and please keep us posted here on your progress.....
