Uni student who was enjoying freedom a bit too much!

  • Hi all,

I'm Lisa and currently at uni, when i first started i guess i was enjoying my self so much i didn't notice that i was putting on weight quite rapidly. in the last 3 years i have probably put on 3-4 stones making me 4 and a half stones overweight.

Late last year, I decided enough was enough, got myself checked out at the doctors as I thought I had diabetes (runs in my family) and thankfully was given the all clear, I have started to get motivated into losing weight because I just feel like I'm missing out on what should be the best years of my life. I'm only 21!

My goal is to be around 125lbs as i'm 5"6, but I have large hips/bum so have decided that by eating healthily first and doing moderate exercise (as i have been living a sedentary life and will pobably collapse at a gym!) that will start me of and hopefully i can lose like 30 lbs before i join a gym.

I have a cross trainer which i have just started getting to grips with and in the last 6 weeks have lost 15 lbs taking me from 210 to 195 so i guess i'm making pogress which i'm happy about but i know that i'm at risk of falling of track, so have joined 3FC in the hopes that i can meet people that can share their own woes with me and we can motivate each other.
  • Welcome!

We basically have the exact same story... so hopefully I'll see you about. You should check out the UK Chicks section, where we have a monthly weight-loss challenge, which is always fun.
  • Welcome Disneyfan10!! I too am fairly new to this site. Everyday I find a new thread that inspires me! Good luck and visit often!
  • Hi Lisa!
Congrats on your success so far, you're off to a great start with a good plan - how smart to focus on your health, especially at your age (wish I had) - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on..

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired. Try the 20 somethings and the weight loss support forums, they're active and very helpful - also the Success stories are a definite must for motivation. Maybe check out the UK Chicks forum, too.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome - you've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
    Lee
