Default Greetings from Alaska

Hello, all. I live in Alaska, weighed in after Christmas at 269.2, and just had to stop it. It seems like every time I turn around I'm hitting a new all-time high, weight-wise. I wasn't always obese and I don't like it now... a goal for me is to be in the "not overweight" category, which is at about 168 for my height. I'll reevaluate when I get there to see how I feel. Presently I am at 262.2.

I prefer achievable mini-goals to help me get where I am going successfully; I was hoping by the end of January to weigh in 10 lbs lighter at 159.2, but the initial pounds do come off very quickly, so I might have to set that a little higher. Normally for me 2-3 lbs/week would be fine.

I'm pretty familiar with nutrition and exercise and know what I need to do, so for me more than anything the need is moral support.

best regards-
calluna

I don't post much, but hope you find the support you need.Sounds like you have a handle on losing.I'm older,so this is gonna be it for me.Hoping to stay with eating healthy & lose slowly.I've had too much of the good food....so now I need to eat less & eat slower.
I'm trying for 20pd goals......seems more doable.Good luck.

Hi Calluna!
How smart to break it up into mini goals with your priority being health and not just a diet or a number - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired - you'll be a wonderful addition to any of them.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee

Thanks to all of you! It's a real challenge - most of my attention goes to my family (2 kids, 12 and 8) and my job (I work for a university), so getting this done is shoehorning some of the usual stuff aside for a bit.

I looked in the mirror one day over Christmas Break and realized that I don't really look in the mirror any more and that I've not really got the time these days to think of me as a person. My mother says it won't be too long before there's more time for me, but somehow I don't think my health will wait its turn courteously in the wings until the children are less labor-intensive.

I'd burst into hysterical laughter if I thought harder about taking time away from other necessary things vs the real, concrete necessity of seeing to my person.

Thanks for the welcome! calluna
