Let's get it started then!

  • Hey everyone.

I'm a 24yo SAHM to a medically fragile 15mo old daughter. It has been a rough 2 years with doctor's appointments and the like, so the pounds have definitely packed on. Our idea of a "meal" here is grabbing fast food and let's face it... there's nothing nutritious or healthy about fast food. But what else do you do when you're out of town for appointments and have 45min between one doctor and the next? You grab a quarter pounder and savor every last morsel of fattening goodness.

Right now I'm at an all time high of 216 pounds and I'm only 5'1. I didn't weigh that much when I was pregnant! I got on the Wii Fit Plus yesterday (devil of a contraption, I swear) and it said I was 100lbs overweight. My jaw dropped. I knew I was a biggun, but by 100lbs? (I'm still debating writing the game developers to complain.)

It sounds cliche but I'm hoping to make this my year of change. I want to be healthy and set a good example for my daughter and my (recently diagnosed with diabetes) fiance.... but overall, I'd like some of my self-confidence and pizaz back.

  • Hi!

I am in the same boat! My daughter also has amjor medical problems and she is 16 months and our life is revolving between doctors. I gained about 60lbs...that was 15 more then when I full term with her. I know how hard it is to find time to eat when you are stressed out of your mind!
For me I didn't even realize how big I got when I looked in the mirror. It wasn't till my mother came for a month to help me with my baby that I was awakened to the amount of weight I had gained and how worried everyone was about me.

Its not ever easy I really have to push myself but I have dropped the first 20lbs and it really motivates you!. I started by just focusing on working out and went for long brisk walks. Once I had a little more stamina I added bodyweight exercises and finally in November I started to really watch what I was eating. It was so hard to get myself off of unhealthy meals but it is getting easier now.

Hope this helps and you find the best plan for yoU!
YOU CAN DO IT! I did

  • Hi SNMomof1!
Sounds like you have your hands full with your precious little girl (& the fiance) - you end up taking care of everything and everyone but yourself -the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired. There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help choose the right ones for you and get through the ups and downs.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
    Lee
