Smile First Post

Hi Everyone -

My name is Marie & I am 45 y/o, married for 21 yrs with two boys, ages 10 & 14.

Had a weight problem due to shyness in high school. Got it under control until my about 4 years ago. We moved from a place I loved to another state (have to go where the work is), and have had, over the last 4 years, a series of heartaches: Difficult move, our oldest was mugged & beaten up, I had emergency eye surgery & am still dealing with the loss of vision, my husband had a heart attack at age 41, we both quit smoking & last year my beloved Mom passed away suddenly during a surgery.

Needless to say........I have put on about 40-45 pounds of heartache! I have been researching Weight Watchers & have many questions. I am too nervous to attend a meeting without some basic knowledge because I don't do well in a high pressure sales atmosphere. And right now..every dollar counts!

Looking forward to chatting, cheering you on and nearing my goal!

Marie

Hello, Marie, and welcome! I am glad you are joining us.

It sounds like you have been through a lot during the last few years. Hopefully, this will be a place that will help you heal.

I am not a member of Weight Watchers, but have tried it in the past. If you want to follow that plan (which many people do here with great success) there is an online version and an "at home" version--no meetings required. I think some people will tell you that the meetings actually keep them on track (I have been to them in the past and did not find them to be high pressure sales tactics). I am sure others here who are currently Weight Watchers members can give you some great insights.

Again, welcome. I wish you the best on your weight loss journey.

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties in the last few years! I am new to this site, also, but hope that the New Year brings better health and luck to you and your family. Good luck in your weight loss, this seems to be a great place for encouragement.

Hi Marie!
You certainly have had more than your share of difficulties and heartaches - many of us can relate to the emotional eating - this can be the start of good things and a healthier and happier you - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired. There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help choose the right ones for you and get through the ups and downs. There's a Weight Watchers forum that may help with some of your questions

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals - 2010 will be our year,
Lee

Happy Holidays!
