I need a place to start - busy mom

  • Hi - I'm Misty

A mom to three girls (almost 4 years & set of 18 mo old twins). I'm tired and finding it hard to put my dietary needs first

My DH and I want to start a diet delivery plan and I think he is going to go with NS or Medifast... but I'm too picky for either of those. I'd rather spend more money on something good, especially if I only get a limited amount . So we are in the process of deciding.

We are hoping it can be a 1 month jump start and that I can slowly add meals I make to the freezer and use the right portions so that we can "wean" off and use the portions we get used to as a guide/starting point. (We successfully lost weight on LA Weight Loss... until after my PG and the overwhelming demands life brought with the twins

Guess thats me in a nutshell. I'm really glad I found 3FC... I'm so ready to move back into a healthy me!
  • Maybe instead of that you guys could take a few hours on the weekend to cook/prepare your meals for the week? It really helps- I do this for my lunches- make them in advance and each day take one to work with me

Casseroles can be made and frozen till needed, salads can be cut up and put together for a few days (wet ingrediants like tomato I put in seperate containers till I mix up the salad) and so on.

Just a suggestion- also some cookbooks with quick meals are great- amazon.com sells cookbooks for VERY cheap
  • Welcome to 3FC and good luck with your goals.

    Hugs
    Michelle
  • Thank you!

If I prepare meals ahead of time - should I use the WW info I have for portion/nutrition amount?

I think it is a great idea to cook ahead of time... I do need to commit to this lifestyle change NOW - it just seems so daunting

I do like cooking and sorting food into little packages...I'm a bit of an organizational pheen I know the food would taste better.
  • Yes, it may seem daunting but the rewards you can reap are so worth and well, you and your health are worth it too
  • Welcome to 3FC!
As a mother of a 19 month old boy, I too am a busy mom. I can not imagine TWO of them!! (plus an older one on top of that!)

Try www.allrecipes.com. It has the nutrition labeled on the recipes so you can figure out points. You can search by the ingredients you already have on hand. Plus, cooking at home will save $$$.

Get your kids involved too! Nutrition should be a family thing! I always say that if I wouldn't feed it to my 19 month old, then I shouldn't eat it either!!! (haha easier said then done!)
  • It is so hard with little ones around! I only have one and find I never have time to prepare lunches ahead of time- letting myself get so hungry that I drive-thru somewhere is what got me to this weight!

I like the idea that someone posted above about making all your meals on Sunday. That would really help cut down on prep time throughout the week!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!! You don't have that much to lose! You can do it!!
  • Hi Misty!
Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained!

There are lots of people here with more to lose and lots with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a short time myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome aboard - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

P.S. If you still are considering a delivery plan, I've been on Diet to Go for 5 weeks (low carb plan) - the food is good, you can make subtitutions, and it's a little more reasonable that most of the other delivery plans (plus shipping is $16.99 where others are $25 or more). I've lost a little over 22 lbs (I have LOTS to lose) and it's been really easy to stick to, at least for me.
  • Hi Autumnlily.

I'm new to the site myself - only joined this week.

I'm sure you'll find great support, ideas and motivation here.

  • After talking with my husband more and reading on the forums - we are both going to commit to Medifast for one month. We need something to motivate us together and I'm so ready to feel better about my body. I look forward to working with some of the recipes!

I used to hover at 140 to 145 (over 4 years ago) on my small to medium 5ft 2in frame... and it was starting to hurt (joints, mental health and stomach). Then after two PG (one lost at end of 1st trimester) and the birth of my first DD I hovered at 155 for over a year (was 180 the day I delivered her). Then with LA Weight Loss and a new active job I made it to 131lbs and felt awesome about myself (still on the high end of the 'healthy charts' - but at least within the limits). Needless to say, I weighed 200lb the day I delivered our twins in 4/2008 and I've been struggling ever since.

I did lose 10lbs recently on WW and am disappointed that I find it "too hard" to do... I know it's me and not the program. I've gained 2lb back. I just did so much better when my hubby and I were on board with the same eating regimen and he is not a fan of WW. I'm encouraged that we will be starting Medifast together and cooking one L&G meal for me and 3 to 5 meals a day for my 3 children will cut my work in half!

Just had to say more... I have a feeling I'll be around for awhile and really look forward to the support here!
