I started my weight loss journey July 21, 2008. I quit smoking, after 21 years and 2 packs a day, on October 21, 2008 so yes, it can be done

I have. Back on February 4, 2008 I had my first (and only) anxiety attack. My husband and I both thought I was having a stroke. After leaving the emergency room that evening I decided right then and there I needed to stop smoking and get healthy. I had been smoking for 20 years and weighed my heaviest at 220 pounds. For me the only way I could quit smoking was exercise. Basically I replaced one habit for another. At first I started slowly by riding my bike around the neighborhood and let me tell you what great motivation it is to stop smoking when you are huffing and puffing on a bike because your lungs are screaming at you. It made me never want a cigarette ever again. One year and 7 months later I am 55 pounds smaller, stronger and healthier than I have ever been. Working out has also relieved me of my anxiety. The best part about it is I am still a non-smoker. It's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

On July 22 I re-started my diet, quit smoking and quit drinking any alcohol whatsoever. It seems like it would have been hard, but somehow I think it made dieting and exercising so much easier. The quitting smoking was THE hardest part however. I ended up having to buy Commit lozenges which worked wonderfully! I rarely even use them.
