Hi, my name is Laurie and I just found this site. Hurrah! I was put on prednisone two months ago for an auto immune disease (Hashimotos Thyroiditis). I have started excercising, I watch what I eat, NOTHING!!!! I have gained about 30 lbs and don't know how I am going to lose any. I HAVE BEEN TRYING SO HARD. I also have a very unsympathetic husband who actually said to me :" I'm not attracted to you at this weight." What happened to "for better or worse, skinnier and fatter?" I've been really hard on myself and I'm down. Can anyone help me find out about this site? I am not that great on the computer but I will TRY!

Hey Laurie, That is so crappy of your husband to say that...unfortunately for me I don't like myself at all when I gain any weight! I am obsessed even though I am not really overweight. I had to contact you since we have the same name and spell it the same! Take care, Laurie
First, welcome to 3FC. I totally agree w/Michelle. I know it sounds funny, but you do have to eat to lose weight. Not eating will only make your body hold onto the weight you do have by putting you into starvation mode. You want to fuel your body so it burns fat more efficiently.
I'm sorry you're not getting the support you need at home, but you'll get tons of that here. Good luck!

Welcome to 3fc's Laurie! I know it's a challenge to lose weight on Prednisone. I gained a tremendous amount of weight on it many years ago; just could not control my appetite.
Check out the Dieting with Obstacles Forum for additional support.
Hi Laurie: I just joined this blog too. I have been on prednisone for over a year....diagnosed with temporal arteritis. I have had most of the side effects of prednisone....and gaining weight does go along with it. It does make you feel badly about yourself, but, prednisone was the only drug for my condition. There is a risk of blindness with temporal arteritis, so I am thankful that it has helped me. I am slowly lowering the dosage and have had a lot of side effects from withdrawal. You need to get as informed as you can about your illness and prednisone. Doctors seem not to tell you all the nitty gritty things about your condition....so, the internet is a big help. Just use google and you will bring up a lot of sites that will help you. I am sorry your husband is not displaying empathy for you. You need his support, and I hope he will more supportive. If not, you need to find others to lean on, and know that you will get through this. If you are a Christian, you know that you have the best advocate....the Lord Himself. Let me know if I can help you. Better days ahead of us.
