Default Brand New Newbie

Hi all.

I've been reading this forum for a few days and thought I'd jump in. I need some weight loss buddies. I am at a high of 232 and hating every minute of it. I hurt all over and don't have any energy! I recently gained most of this too, because of stress eating. My husband lost 3 jobs in 2008 when the economy went bad so it was a very stressful time. We both gained a lot of weight but his came off right away. Mine, not so much! Any ideas or encouragement would be appreciated. I know what to do, I just can't get myself to do it lately.

i finally weighed in today after always telling myself that i am tall & i can carry the weight. I am 91 lbs over-weight ! I had no idea (or i did & just did a good job of fooling myself). I just started "skinny chicks" diet. First day & so far so good; however it requires you to eat every 4 hrs & altho i am sure that's what I have been doing (ie chips/junk food); when you absolutely/positively have to eat; it's not the same. I am going to give it a week; see if it really works. Do you have a plan yet?

Not yet. I really need to figure out what I want to eat. I like a variety so calorie counting might be best. I will check out the skinny chicks diet too. I'd like to lose 80 lbs.

How tall are you?

6'2" - hubby & i are both committed to this but he is diabetic so his approach is different. We just bought a treadmill becuz walking in texas this time of year is ucky LOL. I, of course, just want it to all "fall" off ... I always start out w/ good intentions. That's why I am hoping that this site will keep me on track & motivated. I will keep in touch if this approach works.

Tallgal, I do hope you enjoy your treadmill. I have one and love it. Haven't been on it for a while but that is going to change! It's too hot in most of the US now to walk outside comfortably.

Maybe we should start a walking challenge? I really need to look around this site more to find exercise challenges.

they say 10,000 steps = 5 miles. I am hoping to reach that within the first 30 days but currently at 1 1/4 mile per day ... hey, it's a start. So far I am losing weight but I think I am techinically just "peeing" the lbs away; drinking lots of water and doing wind sprints to the bathroom every 20 minutes LOL My problem is I am a great starter of diets; this time I plan on finishing too.

Welcome!!! So sorry to hear about your hubby's jobs I can imagine how stressful that would have been . . . but good on you for making the decision to start getting healthy!

Been there, done that! It sounds like you're into a great rhythm though, so keep up the good work! I'm going to join you in drinking that water.

I am going to try and keep up with you with the exercise too, if you don't mind. Hmmm. Trying to figure out how to do this. The tv in my work out room isn't on cable and I'm waiting for a converter box coupon. I have to watch tv to walk on that thing. Guess I'll have to pop in a movie or old Seinfeld episodes.

Thank you Danni! It was the worst.year.evah. Well, I HOPE it was the worst!

I read your story about regaining and needing to get back on track too. You can DO it! You know you can, especially if you did it before. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting our head back in the right place. That really seems to be the hardest part.

Is that you in your avi pic? You look quite elegant!

Ahhhh thank you Post ho'ing all over 3FC's is helping me get my head in the right spot . .. at the very least posting when I get home from work keeps me active and busy . . . hence less chewing!

I keep reminding myself that if I did it before I can and will do it again. Properly!

Sadly that is not me in my avi, but I look forward to being a flexible string bean again

Well if post ho'ing works for you, then I'm going to do that too! Guess I'm willing to try anything at this point!

You're so right, and "properly" is the key word there. It's so amazing that we all know WHAT to do, but we keep going back to our old bad habits. It's just easy. It's what I (at least,) do when I'm being lazy and not focusing. Being here is already helping me to get my head back in the right place though, so I know it is a good thing! I hope we see each other here often.

I love what you said about not focussing . . . that is exactly how I feel when I am off the perch. . . I was thinking about this the other day, about how numb to life over-eating makes me feel . . . just in a complete fog.

Look at me, 2 days back on track and I am already feeling like a rockstar Who knows I may even break into a fully-clothed sweat at this rate before the week is out . . . ha!

Don't know yet but I will try to put together a 1600-1800 calorie plan for the day. I have a couple of calorie counting books I like to rummage through. Right now a cup of coffee would be a good start since my tummy is starting to rumble. Fruit salad sounds good for breakfast. Not low carb but my skin likes the fruit.

That is what happens! And it's kind of like the chicken and egg question. Which came first, the fog or the over eating? They certainly seem to "feed" on each other. Stress set me off, and it just didn't seem to end. And of course when you are stressed out, your cortisol levels are higher, so you store fat more easily than normal too! Who needs the weight gain when you are already stressing out?

You will love this . . . I actually have TWO gym memberships . . . oy . . . no excuse not to use one of them this week!!!!!!! ha! (work pays for one)

Ugh bloody cortisol!! Add to that my insulin resistance and I have gone from being someone who had a waist her whole life to someone who kenna find it at the best of times! lol
