Hi 3FC. I'm 6 1-1/2 inches tall so I can usually carry more weight than shorter women. My ideal weight is 175 lbs according to the weight charts. Right now I weigh 245, but that is not the whole story. Back in February (2009) I weighed in at 286. So, I have already lost 41 pounds in 5 months. My goal is to get down to 199 by the end of the year and then work on the remaining 24 pounds.

As close as I can figure, my weight was caused by a combination of big meals and snacks-- in other words "over-eating." I took about 10 years to get to 286, and in that time know that I ate large meals-- sometimes enough for several people. I also worked a night job where I snacked on vending machine garbage out of boredom. I tried every diet around and none of them worked

What got me to stop eating was the economy. I was fired from that job at the beginning of the U.S. Economic Meltdown and had to live on much less. I was under a lot of stress and ended up losing my house, car, savings, and pension, also my health care insurance (of course). I began getting my food at homeless shelters and such, and had to make a little go a long way. Anyway, the discipline helped me reduce the size of my meals and eliminate extra eating. I was surprised to see that I had lost so much weight without even really trying.

Due to my lack of money I got to like vegetarian food. I now eat simply with rice, qiona, buckwheat and other vegetarian staples, and real fruit and veggies. (I am not strictly a vegetarian but I mostly eat vegetarian food). I also eat cheese and different oils, and eggs. fats are important for many body functions, so I don't agree with "no-fat" diet ideas.

About me personally, I am 49, live in a basement, have 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Welcome! I know what you mean about being able to carry more weight. No one ever believes me when they find out how much I weigh!

Welcome fellow Cornhusker! I agree with the eating less concept and eating better quality food too. I'm sorry about your job...hope something even better will come your way.
