Another newbie
Hello!
I am a 41yo SAHM to 3. After my last baby was born in 2001, I was 20 pounds heavier. I didn't try to loose the extra weight until she was almost 4. I finally decided to work hard at it through diet and exercise, and lost the weight in 2005. I kept it off for a couple of years, but have gained it back, plus 10 extra (!), due to sloppy eating habits and inactivity. About a month ago I registered with some friends for a 10K which will be in September. I have been running regularly since then (have worked up to running continuously for 50 minutes - about 4.5 miles for me), have been watching my diet (not really on a specific diet but trying to be careful, not eating a lot of junk, not having second helpings...) and have lost 10 pounds so far.
While part of my goal is to loose pounds so I will look and feel better, I have a different goal this round of loosing weight, and that is to change my lifestyle for good, I want to be healthy and fit, and to age gracefully, as long as I am able. I am not getting any younger, but I want to feel my best for the rest of my life. I had a lightbulb moment recently in which it occurred to me that I have a healthy body - although not fit - but no health problems, no medical problems, I can move, I can walk, I can run, and should be using that to my full advantage as long as I can. Who knows what the future will bring. But while I am able to move my body, while I haven't been plagued by any debilitating illnesses or physical problems, I am thankful for that and I want to use it. I thought, how many people are confined to wheelchairs or bed and would love to be able to walk, dance, or run, while I have the ability to do so and I sit on my butt. No more of that.
Anyway, I have been reading a few of your posts, and looking at some before-after pics - so impressive. This seems like a wonderful support group and I hope to be able to come here from time to time for inspiration. Thanks for allowing me to become a part of this community!
