Talking Diabetic trying to lose weight! New here! =)

HI there! I am new to this site and I have to say after reading some stories on here I've never felt so motivated!!

Here is my story: I am a 26 year old, married and have 2 young children. I was diagnosed with Diabetes about 1 year ago; it has been really hard to lose weight. I have only lost 10 lbs since I have been diagnosed. I work for a hotel in our Sales department and we tend to have all this "goodies" all the time! it so tempting! and worst of all...it does not help with my diabetes.

Right now, I feel more motivated then ever! Yesterday I began walking for 20 minutes (WOW! I really felt it!) and drinking lots of water and eating better. Trying really hard to cut down on carbs, which is really hard for me; but I will try. I would like to loose 20 lbs by November! I will keep you all updated on my progress....

I would like to know who else in this site is Diabetic and how they are doing with their weight, as far as mainting it and what motivates them.

Peace and Love everyone! Take care!

Welcome! I

was just diagnosed in February. You will find lots of good support here. If you are able to take some classes on diabetes managment that would be a great help. We have a local branch of the ADA and I have taken classes there and they offer a support group. For carb counting the Diabetes Association publishes a book called "Help, My underware is shrinking" Great book that walks you through carb counting. You should be able to get it at the library.

The diabetes educator that I see wants us all to walk, she says it is the best thing for preventing complications with your feet. So walking is a great place for you to start!

So, jump in- there is lots to learn around here!

Hi, I was diagnosed about two years ago ( I am 35 )...I have found that keeping my carbs at about 80-100 a day keeps me losing weight at a pretty steady pace...I went back on my diet on May 1st and since then have lost 17pounds to date...I just keep my cals around 1500, eat lower carb as I said above and I dont have any sweets, white bread, pasta, or potatoes....I have fruit when I need something sweet.

I know it is hard, very hard....I have lots of cravings....but it can be done!
Good luck to you.

Carri
