Post Hi from Westerville OH

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have now reached my highest weight ever!! At my last doctor's visit he mentioned the words I never wanted to hear.....bariatric surgery!! I don't want to have to go that route. I know people who have had it done and have been very successful and a few that have had several complications. It scares me!! And I know that if I can't get my "head in the game" even the surgery won't be successful.

We weight has kept me from living!!! I have a 5 year old son who wants to do things but my weight stops me. It is so not fair to him! I am missing out on so much. He is only young once and won't always want to do things with his mommy! Not only that, my weight has ruined several relationships. I am currently single and have been for over 4 years. The thought of even trying to meet people... I just can't take the rejection any more. People say it is what is on the inside but in reality that isn't always true. Looks do matter and at almost 300 lbs....not a real attractive impression.

For me, surgery will have to be the absolute last resort. My employer has chosen 30 employees to participate in a weight management pilot program. For the first 13 weeks they will pay for lab work, meetings and 1/2 of the food. After that, it will be 20% off. I was one of over 150 who applied and and was chosen!! We have had our orientation meeting and was able to taste the some of the food. It taste really good!!! Tastes even better than lean quisine and healthy choice! I have my lab work done tomorrow and then the program begins on 6/16. It is medically supervised for the first 13 weeks even if you choose the Healthy Solutions program (part meals with added fruits and veggies). I am starting with the Decision-Free diet to jump start my weight loss and then after the 13 wks transition into the Healthy solutions diet. They have weekly classes and the instructor calls once a week in between meetings....lots of support and accountability. I am praying that this will be the one that I can be successful with.

Default Setting a goal weight....

I went in today for my lab work, ekg and met with the nurse navigator. She went thru all my paperwork and health history and answered any questions I had. When I stepped on the scale I was mortified!!! I weigh less on my scale at home so it was a bit of a surprise to tip just over 300!! UGH!

After all that she asked me what I thought my goal weight should be. According the BMI chart I should weight between 121-144!! That seems too low for me! At 150 my BMI will be around 26....if looking at the chart I would be considered "overweight"!!! I think I will shot for around 165-175. I think I weighed around that when I graduated from high school. She said that was more realistic than shooting for 121-144. Plus it doesn't seem as daunting a task! Losing just over 100 lbs is ALOT but it can be done!!

Thank you all! It feels good to know that I can reach out when I need extra support. I don't have any family in the area and being a single parent I don't have alot of extra time to make friends. It will be nice knowing I have this forum/community to lean on!! I will keep you all posted!! :-)

Sounds like you are off to a good start! And, yes - losing 100 lbs is very, very doable! Many of our chickies have lost 100 or more lbs!

What a blessing to have such wonderful support as you begin this journey!

Welcome! It's nice to see another person from Columbus here- I'm living on the OSU campus. You've picked a great time to join! If you ever feel like having a walking buddy or whatever, feel free to drop me a pm.

Hi Jamie. I am also determined to lose a little over 100 lbs. I started out at my highest weight ever this time too. I was horrified to see 296.4 on the WW scale. My personal goal is 188, higher than the 140-155 on the chart but much more realistic for me. I haven't been below 235 since I had my son (who is turning 23 next month!)Your program sounds great and between that and everyone here, you should do great!

Ditto to Beauty. I am following a plan but I come here for support and friendship. It is really helping. I've been on plan for 29 days. Dropping weight and feeling better. When I want to binge on junk I come here and visit and learn instead. It really helps.

Good luck with your employers plan. You can do it! I look forward to hearing how it is going.
