Hi everyone-
I'm Cait. I'm 24, and weight 246 lbs.. this is nearly 10 lbs lighter than I was two weeks ago, at my heaviest of 254 lbs. In high school, I was a nationally competitive rower ranked 3rd in the nation- at most I weighed 140 lbs and had a bf% of less than 7%.. Now my bf% is nearly 27%.
In the past 2 weeks, I have gotten the fire lit in me to get back into shape and lose weight. I registered to RUN the 1/2 marathon in my city in November with one of my best friends. Since doing this, I have walked 2.5 miles daily and jogged 2.5 miles daily at least 6 days a week...
my biggest problems is the diet- right now I am consuming no more than 1400 calories daily... also, how to maximize weight loss through effective exercise. I have a 2.5 year old daughter and work at least 40 hrs a week so I'm learning to take the time out for myself to save my own life.
I look forward to meeting new people on here and helping each other on this journey!!
hi you'll definitely receive a lot of help/suggestions/support here everyone here is awesome and I'm glad you joined. I'm sure you're going to kick that marathon's butt in November with all the preparation you're doing!
I really hope so.. but it's terrifying being as heavy as I am and thinking of running a 1/2 marathon.... it's hard to stay motivated when I feel like I am working so hard at it and I'm not losing as much as I would like....
Thanks for replying, I appreciate it- I'm looking forward to using this website!
This website has just been one of the most important tools in my weight loss. There is so much support and advice. Welcome to 3FC and congrats on changing your life for the better. Try to focus on getting in shape and not losing weight so much, it's harder to lose weight according to the scale when you suddenly bump up your exercise. Your muscles will retain water and you will be gaining muscle mass even if you are dropping fat. Remember, Muscle weighs more!
Sounds like you are doing so well! Good luck on your half marathon! Is it downtown Seattle? I'm just across the water.
That's awesome that you are exercising so diligently and have committed to a 1/2 marathon. My daughter (age 6) is training for her first triathlon and I "ran" with her last night - OMG! I knew it would be hard, but seriously I ran 5 steps (on each foot, so technically 10, but who's counting? ) and it nearly killed me. For real.
Looking forward to following your weightloss journey!
Thanks everyone! yes, it's the Seattle 1/2 marathon. My best friend and i are signed up and now just getting ready.. only she is starting at the goal weight I hope to get to, haha.
I was going to ask everyone-- I have only lost 10 lbs at the end of 2 weeks, where is all the water-retention weight I heard I would lose? Because it certainly is NOT coming off. grr...

I'm not sure what you mean. I would assume 5 pounds a week definitely means you're losing some water weight.
In any healthy weight loss journey, 10 pounds in two weeks is a better-than-expected outcome. I think you're doing just fine. If you're struggling with diet, it won't hurt you to increase your intake some. You do need to feed your body if you're going to make it more active.
Have you been visiting the exercise forums? calorie counters?
I'm so impressed that you signed up for a 1/2 marathon... a true sign of determination! Sounds like your athleticism from high school is coming out of hiding... enjoy and keep kickin butt!!
