I have been lurking around the site for a couple of weeks, but that was making me feel more like a stalker than a member, so I decided to post a short intro and say hello to everyone.
My name is Kati, I'm 25 (turning 26 in June) and I live in northern Florida. Currently I am unemployed, but actively seeking employment, and I am a perpetual college student.
I wrote an intro post in my blog about why I am embarking on my weight loss journey, but I'll put a condensed version here. Basically I had a health scare that resulted in me getting a bunch of bloodwork done and discovering that my cholesterol was high (227 total, 145LDL, 49HDL), my blood pressure was high, and my thyroid was underactive (8.08TSH, 1.1 T4free). Because I don't have insurance at the moment, I decided to try and combat these problems through diet and exercise first.
My diet plan is pretty simple. I'm checking labels and ingredients, eating more unprocessed whole foods, cutting down on my cholesterol intake, and upping my intake of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. I supplement my diet with a daily multi-vitamin, fish oil caplet, and evening primrose oil caplet x2 (I have breast pain, cystic breasts run in my family). I also joined a gym and spend more time using Wiifit and Personal Fitness Trainer.
So far I've lost 20 lbs since mid February and I am feeling much, much better. Still not 100%, but definitely in a better place than I was 2 months ago. When I go back to the doctor next month, We're hoping to see an definite improvement in my lab results and blood pressure. Judging primarily on how I'm feeling, I'm almost certain that we will see an improvement
