Unhappy Just starting... and kind of nervous

Hi All!
I have a long history of not liking my weight, but not hating it enough to really put fourth effort for a long term goal. This week has really made me kick it into gear. It was either Tuesday or Wednesday that I stepped on the scale and it read 203.7...!!!!!!!! How on earth did I let myself get this bad?! That can't be right. My driver's license says 135 (which I was at for maybe ten minutes of my adult life, but 142 is more my ideal) This must have been some form of mistake, until this weekend.

My boyfriend and I went up to the mountains to go snowboarding at my family's cabin. I had bought a new pair of ski pants last winter because my usual pair were starting to get a bit too snug. I tried them on the night before we were to hit the slopes, and I could NOT get them to buckle! What has happened to me?! I need to take control and do it fast!

Please, if anyone has good advice on how to successfully shed the pounds and feel good again, I would love any advice.

Thank you all. I look forward to reading your stories.

HI Diane

I had the same thing happen to me this week. I got on the scale and was stunned. Never mind that I've had to buy steadily larger sizes over the last few years; to go from buying size 8's and 10's to bursting out of 16's just..didnt...register. Currently I own exactly 3 pairs of pants that I can get into.
I started South Beach Thursday (just 4 days ago) and it's going well. I picked SB solely because the book was on my shelf. I am sitting down right now without unbuttoning my pants, so I'm making some progress. It feels good, and feeling in control is even better.

You just have to start somewhere. I think that's the hardest part-I put off the start for a full month, dreading it. My youngest son is graduating from college in two months and the thought of facing people I havent seen in a long time finally-finally!-made me act.

Finding this site is a godsend. I hope you'll make the commitment, too. I'll be watching for your posts.

Thank you for your words of encouragement! I'll keep updating. Good luck with South Beach too!! I heard the first two weeks are carb free correct? How do you avoid becoming crabby?

I was a little listless the first three days but today felt fine. And I am a HUGE carb eater/lover...bread, rice, pasta, potatoes. I had to fight the bread craving the other nite but today...I felt good and didnt miss anything.

Hey there Diana! Welcome from NC! You've started just by joining us here, congrats! You may want to watch your calories daily as a start. I have never tried the SBD, but it has worked for many people. I myself am doing WW with points and am having great results so far! Almost effortlessly. I have lost 8.4 lbs in the first 2 weeks! No matter what you choose to do, just remember it is a lifestyle change and do not deprive yourself. Good luck with which ever method you choose to go with!

Hi Diane!! I am new here too... glad to meet you. I have heard the Southbeach plan is really good... the first couple of weeks are the hardest, but totally do-able. The key is finding a plan that you can live with.. because as I have found out the hard way... just doing it for a few weeks or months will get results but they will not last. I really have to pay attention to the type of carbs that I eat. Because I am very addicted to the worst ones...potato chips, ice cream... nachos...etc. I am trying to make my intake of carbs the healthiest ones.. fruits, veggies, whole grains. Finding a support grout is a very good first step... lots of info here. Many people here, getting healthy by using many different plans... a great place to research what will work best for you.
Looking forward to seeing you around....
