Cool Evenin from Germany

Hi all,

I'm not good at talking about myself so here goes. A couple years ago
i was very active. Went to the gym 5 times a week maintained a health weight since separating from the military. I was diagnosed with chronic hives in 2003 and the doctor put me on two different medications. The name escapes me at the moment. The medications made me sleep all the time and my metabolism sunk like a stone. I started to pack on the pounds and since I was so tired all the time i didnt care. At the time controlling the hives was all i cared about and thats what the medication did. Fast forward 2005. I gained a hundred pounds and nothing could motivate me to lose weight. I've been clinically depressed for over 3 years now and slowly trying to find my way back mentally and physically. I usually try to do things on my own but sometimes just seems too much. I dont need to lean on anyone just being able to talk even if no one responds works for me. I'm in germany and there is no weight watchers on base that i know of. I guess I need to sort out some type of diet plan.

vent over..thanks for listening

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear about the hives but hopefully they are under control finally. Well, I just joined 3fatchicks also but this seems to be the place to get help and support from people who've been there done that.

However, you may want to check out community boards on base. I'm sure there is a group of men and women somewhere working on weight loss. It may not be anything official like Weight Watchers but even a small informal group is good.

I don't follow a formal diet plan either. Mainly because I pretty much know what I should be doing. It's just the doing it part that's hard. Secondly I really want a "diet plan" that I follow for the rest of my life and so am trying to change my eating habits.

My suggestion would be to try and change one thing at a time such as first get into the habit of exercising every day or trying to drink water everyday and then build on that at least until you find a plan that works for you.

Good luck and feel free to vent any time. That's what we're here for.

Chocoparadise~ Welcome to 3FC! The hives sounds pretty miserable I hope they are finally controllable. You should know that you do NOT have to deal with this alone! There are tons and tons of people on 3FC that are amazing at quick motivating responses to everything! Even though everyone's stories are different, we are all pretty much here for the same reason and knowing that you are not alone can be a pretty powerful feeling! There are some great forums on here, ones that you can go to just to complain, ones for when you really need some motivation, and there are bunches of them just with great ideas for things like exercise plans and recipes! There are even pages of games and off topic conversations! I really hope you find what you are looking for here!

Good luck!

Courtney

chocoparadise!! I was an exchange student in Germany (a loooonnng time ago ) so I get the screen name.

Ok...hives are fixed, check. 100 pounds to lose, check. That part I can relate to, the hives thing just sounds like it sucked big time.

My advice to someone trying to do this on her own? Find a plan that fits your life, I happen to swear by calorie counting. I also highly recommend making a habit of exercise - even just going for a walk if it becomes a habit makes a world of difference. Wander around 3FC, keep asking questions and venting is always allowed. We get it, hon...and we're listening.

thank you all for the positive support. I know what i need to do, its
just the follow through i'm having an issue with. I am not a home cooker so when i'm hungry i go for the easy and quick microwave dinners or fast food. Feel crappy after eating too. Is there a website that can give me some simply healthy meals i can cook at home?? I dont really have a favorite food and bland food taste just fine for me...well with a shot of hot sauce.

My favorite place to go for recipes is allrecipes.com. It's not exactly diet friendly but they do have section devoted to quick and easy meals you can fix and a lot of time the other members there will give you substitution ideas for differing diet needs.

Hope this helps.
