Default No mom, it's not baby fat!

I believed that for a while but when I hit my twenties, I couldn't believe that lie any longer.

Hey ladies, glad to be here and find other women that are fighting the same good fight I have been battling for as long as I can remember. Let's see, where to start... I have been a fat kid all my life and last year, 6 months before my wedding I decided to do something serious about it. I lost 35 pounds fast, the "right" way with balanced meals and exercise and of course, weighing myself daily for motivation. A month before my wedding, the weight loss stopped dead in her tracks. So I turn it up a notch, got the thyroid/ diabetes test done and cleared, exercised more, cut more calories out of my daily intake and still nothing. What's a girl to do? I went on my honeymoon and ate like a cow. I lost 3 pounds.

I got back on track and still nothing. I hired my own personal screaming machine (a personal trainer) and my husband took away my scale. I worked hard, wrote down everything I ate, drank a lot of water but still had my bowl of sherbet at the end of the night. When judgment day came and it was time for weigh in, I had gained 5 pounds. Maybe muscle, maybe not...

Not ready to call it quits, I decided to join a sport that I enjoy, roller derby!!! Yup, one time and splat, broken ankle. I am now on week three of being out of work, thankfully heading back on Monday but I haven't given exercise a go yet since my surgery.

So that's my fat kid story in a nut shell. I am thinking about heading back to the gym this weekend and working my upper body and my one good leg but sometimes I just wonder what the point is, in just a couple of months it will be a year with no weight loss. I can't seem to budge that 230 under the great scale mountain. Is it my sugar intake? Does anyone count their grams per day and if so, what range do you stay in?

Other than that, I am a art teacher by day, animal lover by night. Oh and I am a awful speller, so I am sorry in advance! I look forward to getting to know some of you and hearing the weight loss wisdom you can pass my way.

Hi, and welcome!

This forum is great- you'll find lots of excellent advice here

I recently had back surgery, so I understand how difficult it is to get back into exercise! I think if you went to the gym and worked your upper body, it would be a positive step in the right direction...My motto is, "I can do nothing and be in the same place a year from now, or I can do something, and even if I only lost 5 lbs the entire year, that's better than where I am now".

As for diet- I do Weight Watchers, which works well for me. When I try to cut anything out of my diet, I just want it more and more...But yes, if you have the willpower, cutting down on sugar/salt/refined foods should help! I'm not sure how much sugar you generally eat now, but I know that people who drink a lot of coke tend to drop weight really quickly when they stop, so I don't see why regular sugar should be any different.

Congratulations on your loss so far- you're doing great!

P.S. I also love animals

ArtChick,

Have you moved to a sub-forum anywhere? I may have some clues as the symptoms are similar to what has happened to me. My intro only skims the surface!
