New and feeling positive!!!

  • Hi All!!

I'm new here. I think I introduced myself in the wrong place a couple of days ago and should have used this area to introduce myself- so here I am- SaneSally!!

    A bit about me:

After a long history of disordered eating (AN), regaining the weight and more, I am now at what people would call a 'healthy' weight but I am not happy with what I see. Whilst it is 'healthy' it really isn't asthetically pleasing.

I recently came across Paul McKenna's weight loss system and his four golden rules of eating and decided that this is what I needed in my life. I'm sick of eating crap, feeling guilty for it, promising to start over, feeling deprived, hating myself and all of the rest that goes with serial dieting and associated failure.

His system looks great to me. It will teach me to trust food and trust my body- by only eating when I am hungry, eating exactly what I want, and srtopping when I am totally full. This is what I need. Not restriction and the associated guilt that comes when violating that restriction. So I am approaching this with a new attitude- a positive one. Not a one of self-hate and self-contempt. I wanto to enjoy food and reap the benfits that go with trusting your body- stopping when full and not eating when not hungry.

    Anybody with me?

    Love to you all,
    Sally xxx
  • Welcome Sally!!

Surf around and settle in. We have subforums based on age, eating plans (have you considered intuitive eating?), exercise, a UK subforum, and more.

    I'm glad you're here!

Glad you found us. You will find 3FC is a great site for support and information!

I think intuitive eating is a really good plan. Sounds like you are on the right track! And I agree, eating shouldn't be about guilt or feeling bad about what you put in your mouth.

Looks like you are right on target in that you are at a really healthy weight right now.
Are you really aiming for an 18.6 BMI?

Rather than concentrate on weight loss, how about concentrating on healthy eating and fitness goals?

Eating healthy foods can make a big difference in your appearance. I think combining healthy eating and intuitive eating is a winning combination.
    and -
I have found that - although my weight hasn't changed in 7 months, my body sure has! Weight training, cardio, pilates, yoga - have all done an incredible job reshaping my body.

I look forward to reading your posts and getting to know you better!
  • Hi Countingdown!!

And thanks for the warm welcome both of you. I think intuitve eating is the best bet for me. I love food, and at the same time, am passionate about health and fitness. I do around 1 hours cardio 5 days per week and play netball once or twice a week too. I really couldn't do without exercise!! I LOVE IT!!

And yes, I think I need to get a good combination going with health foods. I have always dabbled around with wholefoods and tried to eat a diet rich in them because it makes me feel good to know that I am nourishing myself with good foods. But I also eat none whole foods too- like a biscuit here and there, and like, occasions when you go out with friends for meals, or fancy something unhealthy like red meat or something..

Countingdown, are you following a primarily wholefoods diet? If not, what kind of eating plan do you follow?

    Much love,
    Sally xxxx
  • Sally,
Yes - a whole foods diet works really well for me. Also, a key was balancing my fat/carbs protein (30/40/30). I was a carbaholic eating way too little fat and protein. Switching to complex - whole carbs and balancing really made a difference.

I also eat 6 smaller meals a day. That helped me learn what hunger was. If I am truly hungry, I will eat my next planned meal/snack. By eating smaller amounts, I seemed to re-connect with my hunger/satiety switch. Waiting until my tummy actually growls was a new concept for me, for sure.

When I go out to eat, I often order from the side or appetizer menu. Many restaurants have baked sweet potatoes instead of white for example. Often whole wheat versions of things are available if you ask for them. That is something that took me a while to learn - that I could ask for substitutions when I order out.

Around here, you will often see people referring to "eating clean". Same concept. It seems to work for many, many of our chickies. I noticed how many of our maintaining chicks ate a primarily whole foods diet - it was a large percentage of them. I figured that they were on to something, and I was right.

You CAN do this! I look forward to reading of your success!
