Without a doubt, calorie counting! It's simple, it doesn't cost anything and it very much arms you with knowledge that will serve you for life--very unlike packaged meals or whatever.

Weight watchers is wonderful if you can afford it. It doesn't restrict any foods plus you get live support at your weekly meeting.

Calorie counting, for sure. It's the only diet that I've ever stuck to for more than a week.

Jenny Craig has been the best diet for me--it works because I have a busy schedule and when I try counting calories it never goes right. I do agree with ThighsBeGone... Calorie counting is probably one of the best if you can stick to it. Good luck

I'm sold on South Beach. No calorie counting and feel satisfied all the time. Lost more weight than any other diet before. You do have to read the book but I got it from the library. My family is eating healthier too!

Wow...thanks for all the quick replies! Some of you have lost a lot of weight. Calorie counters...did you do it all on one diet..I mean counting calories is something I can do but what types of foods do you eat that satisfy you while you're losing weight? And non-calorie counters have you lost all your weight that way? It's seems to me I've always failed and eaten too much when I've not counted calories. I tend to eat when not hungry because of stress so having a limit does help me if I stick to it.

StarzMom, I have doing this since late May 2008. I eat lots of foods but primarily focus on whole foods and high quality protein. I find these foods are plain more filling than anything processed. Some of my faves are eggwhites with salsa, raw almonds, avacado, small quantities of peanut butter, shellfish and fish, grilled chicken, black olives, string cheese, oatmeal, and every fruit and vegetable we are truly blessed with. I buy whatever is in season and on sale.

For my crutches I use nonfat cooking spray, 5 calorie margarine, and sugar-free Starbucks syrup.

You can do this. It is very worth it.

Your starting weight is about what mine is now. How long did it take you to lose to where you are and how many calories do you limit yourself to each day? I do like wholesome plain foods myself as well.

Oh I'm sorry you did nswer that...since May so about 8 months then. Great work doing that by the way. I am here because I need daily encouragement and interaction since I'm home most of the time. I hope we can talk more.

Kelly..you've lost a lot of weight. Very good work! What sorts of foods do you eat in your calorie counting diet? Which foods keep you feeling full and satisfied? I'm a pretty hungry girl so I'd appreciate pointers on good diet foods you like.

HI..I have to join in that calorie counting is the best diet ever. I try to get the most food for my calories. I try to avoid white carb, I also drink lots of water. Check out the calorie counters forum. You will get lots of good information on the site.

Starzmom, with calorie counting you are not restricted on the foods you choose, but it is better to choose nutritious foods. I keep an eye on carbs and sodium( sugar and salt ) as these put the pounds on me. I determined that I was not going to pay someone to tell me what to eat anymore. Calorie counting serves me well in maintaining my loss ,as well.

You've really done a wonderful job losing weight. I'm with you...I do not want to pay someone money to lose weight. Really if I do it right it should cost me less money to restrict my calories because I'm eating less! I know I can't lose weight counting calories if I choose to eat cake and ice cream...it seems when I eat sweets I just get hungrier...so maybe lean protein and lots of veggies for me. I need food and menu ideas for sure.
