Hello all! Newbie here looking for support :)

  • Hey Everyone!

So a little background on me, I've been overweight nearly my whole life (being 200 pounds in 7th grade wasn't fun ). In high school I joined the crew team (and got mono and bronchitis back to back) so I lost a bit and got down to my smallest, a size 10. Then, in college I gained a bit more than the "freshman 15"- more like freshman 50. After my freshman year I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years, which was a good for weight loss at least, and I lost 25 pounds. Since then I have been steadily gaining.

I'm graduating in December, and I would really like to be looking and feeling healthy while looking for a job; also I would like to take advantage of this last year where I really have time to develop good habits. I have never been successful deliberately trying to lose weight; the only significant weight loss I have ever achieved has been due to sickness or grief over a breakup.

Also, my aunt is very overweight, and has been since she had her daughter at 25. I really look up to her, and I take after her in so many ways, but I don’t want my weight to be one of them. I want to get it under control before it gets worse.

I'm hoping to find the support I need here! I have browsed the site and the forums and have seen the kind of people who post here, and I really feel like this will help me succeed!

Anyway, sorry for the long winded post, but I'm considering joining weight watchers- have any of you had good experiences with them? If not, do you have any suggestions for a different program? I'm not looking for a diet, more of a lifestyle change, which is why I was interested in weight watchers.

Also- I am an emotional/boredom eater (mostly boredom I think). As a student I spend so much time studying in my room and I snack nonstop. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks a bunch, and good luck to everyone!

    Mandy
  • Welcome Mandy! Have you had an exciting week in DC?

Congrats on being so close to graduation!! That's awesome!!!

I know a lot of chicks have had good success with Weight Watchers. We have an active Weight Watchers forum and I'd encourage you to check out our 20-something forum too. Very lively in there!!

Calorie counting is another simple method of tracking that people have found success with.

    I'm glad you're here!!
  • Haha exciting to say the least! It's been a MADHOUSE up here!

But funny you should mention the 20 something's forum, I was just looking at it! I think I'm definitely going to give WW a try (next Friday anyway, can't join until I get paid!)

    Thanks for the encouragement!
  • Welcome Mandy!
I have lost my weight with Weight Watchers. It is a great program and is a lifestyle change that I can stick with for the rest of my life.
    Good luck to you!
My dd is a freshman in college and she says it is very difficult to find healthy options in the cafeteria.
