I am 350lbs
Hello my name is Dawn, I live in New York. I am 33 years old, single and living with my Mom. I have been gaining weight steadily for the past year. At this time last year I weighed 294lbs. My Doctor put me on Topomax. This past year I have gained over 50lbs. I do not know where to start or who to turn to. I need help. I am too big to do this on my own. I need help. I have given up on my Doctor and my life. I am afraid I am going to keep on gaining. I can hardly walk and have trouble breathing. Where can I go for help? This is the first time I have searched the Internet for help. Can you help me or give me any info on clinics or anything? Please I am running out of time. Thank you for your time, Dawn

Welcome, Dawn. You have made the first step into getting healthy...you have come here and asked for help, and there is a lot of it here. You are not too big to do this (on your own or with help). You know how you do it? One day or one hour at a time, what ever works for you. Start by making small changes. Drink more water, make healthy food choices, move more. Losing weight is not rocket science. Make better food choices, eat less and move more. It is that simple. Do you have a plan on how you are going to lose? I personally am a calorie counter and that works for me. There are a lot of different ways to do it. Calorie counting was my choice, because I can still have anything I want, just as long as it fits into my calorie range. If I deprive myself, off the wagon I go.
You can do this and we are all here to help. Post as many questions as you have, everyone is very helpful here....you have come to the right place. |
Welcome!
I used to be on Topomax for migraines and noticed I gained a bit of weight on it. Now that I am off it, I have lost 16lbs. If you have insurance, you could see a nutritionist and they can help you. Also you can look into weight watchers, its an excellent program! |
Welcome to 3FC. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there in the same situation as you. I know it seems like it's impossible for you to do this on your own, but there are more resources out there than you might think.
Do you have the option of going back to your doctor? Ask for a referral to a nutritionist and a counselor. Speaking to a counselor is the best thing you can possibly do. They'll help you find your way to all the other resources that you can utilize. I would also recommend going to over-eaters anonymous meetings. You can find meeting times in your area by searching on google for the OA website. If there's anything else I can do to help, feel free to ask. |

Hey there Dawn, I'm also a Dawn and started out at 330 lbs, You can do this and you are not "too big" to do this on your own, And you wont be doing it on your own either! You have taken the first step to good health. Now you need to make small small changes every day to insure that you are (and will stay) on the right track! What have you started to do as far as change? If you need medical help I would go back top the dr or look for a new one someone out there can help you if you feel you need that kind of help, You are not alone and if you need to talk I'm here and know how you feel!

what exact help are you looking for? Help to make the first step into a healthy life? Have you thought about what your first step will be? About your bad habbits, trigger foods, why you eat and so on? Thats what I would recomend, Set aside the time to go over these things and what your plan will be and then you can recieve more support. I know for myself my first and biggest step was to give up soda and drink water and that didnt all happen in one day, it happened in many days, then when I adjusted to that I made another small change. I think when you make small changes and give yourself time to adjust to them it becomes a bit easier to deal with then jumping into something head on and failing (if this makes sense) |
