Red face Forum Newbie here

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and am wanting help in staying on track with my weightloss efforts. I recently lost my grandson to Tay-Sachs disease and my father to a briken hip. Now the weight is starting to pile on. Would like to loose 50 lbs asap. Any advice?

Hi there -

Welcome to 3FC

This is a great place for motivation and support. It's great to have somewhere to come and chat about things - weight related or not - with people who can understan exactly where you're coming from.

I'm very sorry to hear about your grandson and father. It can be really hard to go through the loss of a loved one - let alone two. I praise you for your resilience and for wanting to persevere lose the weight.

I wish you all the best in achieving your weight loss goals.

I'm so sorry for your recent losses

I'm sure there are so many people on 3FC who would love to lose 50 lbs ASAP... but most of us are going to tell you that we'd rather lose 50 lbs FOREVER rather than QUICKLY. And for many of us it means changing our eating habits slowly. Making them positive habits, instead of negative ones like they have been. It means small changes that add up over time. One or two pounds a week generally speaking. Sometimes less, sometimes more... but we're more concerned with the long term.

Yes, we all want the weight off NOW. But, not if it means we'd put it back on two months after we lost it.

Do you have an eating plan? Or an activity plan?

If not, take some time to look under Diet Central at some healthy ways of eating. And look under the Exercise area as well for tips on getting started, or finding some DVDs you might like to try using.

You can do this.

I'm so sorry for your losses.

In general, a safe weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week or 1% of your body weight a week. So, it might take some time to lose 50 pounds. It took me 10 months, actually. But I also was never starving, I ate good & healthy foods, and I've adjusted my exercise routine to something I love and can see doing for years and years. I'm glad you're here!

What are you thinking about for food and exercise?
