    I know how you feel, my boyfriend is in amazing shape- aside from being a firefighter, he goes to the gym everyday. The first few times I went with him I felt a little embarassed, but then I realized that no one really cares what YOU are doing. It is much easier if you get a gym buddy, if you make a date you are less likely to break it, whether it be a friend or a significant other. Just remember everyone at the gym is there for the same purpose! I started going spinning, the first time I went I thought everyone was looking at me, and it took me a few classes before I realized that no one was thinking about what I was doing and now I love it, I met some people who went and when I say see you next class I feel obligated to go!

    You definitely need protein - especially if you are lifting weights. I count calories - but I also track percentage of calories from Carbs/protein/fat. Well...Fitday does it for me (for free). Maybe try tracking what you eat for a few days to get a baseline? Fruits and vegetables are great - but you also need lean proteins like chicken (breast meat is the lowest fat), turkey, eggs (especially the whites), cottage cheese, ground beef (check the fat content - I aim for 7% fat or less)....I also like string cheese, peanut butter (watch your portion sizes). You need protein to build muscle...you saw before what happens when you lose weight but don't build muscle. You end up smaller but still flabby.

  • Gina- yeah i know what ur saying I cant be a picky eater either! that will be my problem i checked it fitday that looks fun!! I have some questions.. like how and what is the easiest way of measuring or keeping track of ur calories I always look at the labels but there are other things grr lol sorry

  • The trick with Fitday is to enter stuff from packages as a custom food. Then it's there for you next time and you don't have to re-enter all the info.

    Veggies and stuff I often use the raw item even if I cook it (as long as I don't add oil or something), for me it's easier to find. It's a bit time consuming at the beginning - but now it's pretty quick and easy for me.

    You might check out The Daily Plate as well - a lot of people really like that site, too.

  • hey ryan.. i am new here but not to the whole weightloss thing. so anyway.. i understand your dilemma with the gym.... as someone said above that no one is really paying attention to anyone else. that is true. i prefer to go to the gym alone.. because i am there to workout not to talk and make nice..its kinda like work..get in get out. i avoided getting a membership at the gym my cousin and my good friend go to because i dont want to socialize. ( lol no i am not anitsocial) i weigh 240 lbs and i get my big butt on that treadmill too! dont worry about other people. you are there for you.. not anyone else good luck!

  • Gina-i tried Fitday and the Daily Plate and hmm i dont know I get the daily plate a lil better I just got to make sure i log stuff down when i am out!! I dont know how i am going to measure but yeah thank you alot its got me in the right direction!!
