Hello from Michigan

  • Hi,

I'm Denise, and I've been reading posts for a couple of weeks. Today I decided to join so I could actually participate.

I'm 52, and I was at a healthy weight all my life until about the last 8 years. Various health problems and accidents have contributed my weight gain, but I believe that I can lose weight and alleviate some of my health issues. I gained a lot of weight fast (about 100 lbs in a year), and still hardly recognize myself in the mirror. On the inside I feel like I should still weigh 130 pounds, but my body certainly doesn't look or feel the same. So I've more than doubled my weight, and want to be the active, outdoorsy person I was not that many years ago.

I'm counting calories, and plan to begin exercising by the end of this week. I'm going to move the Airdyne I bought a few years ago for physical therapy after an accident, into my home office. I think that will be a fairly non-stressful workout for just beginning. Actually, I never used it ~ but it seems like the logical thing to do now.

I'm looking forward to getting to know people here, and participating in some great discussion/support.
  • Hi Denise!

You may want to pop on over to the 100lb club or the 50+ Group to start, but feel free to post wherever you're comfortable.

We all love helping & supporting eachother along the way!
  • Denise &
  • Hi! Welcome! This is an amazing place to find support. I don't actually know how I would get through certain days without the wonderful wisdom here.

    Good luck to you!!!!
  • Hi, 52 can be amazing. Welcome to 3FAT CHICKS. I'm from Michigan too, and know several other ladies who are. Come on over to the 50+ group and check it out. I know I am more confortable with people my own age. Not that I don't enjoy being around younger people, but I think our challenges are a little different. You just don't lose as quickly as you did when you were younger.

Hope to see you there soon
  • Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I've been looking around for a while, and there are several places I want to spend some time. Even though I just joined today, the encouragement I've been reading has been very helpful to me over the past couple of weeks.

See you all around the boards!

    Denise
