Hello everyone!

  • I joined yesterday but did not have time to introduce myself till now. I am 45 years old. Will be 46 next week. Decided it is well overtime to start taking care of myself. Like a lot of you I did not always have a weight issue. But in all honesty over the past 20 years it has been a problem for me. At the most I weighed about 240 lbs. Not even sure how I lost it, but I did get down to about 170 lbs. I weighed about 170 lbs. for the past 6 years. Then about 2 months ago I quit smoking and now I am already up to 195. Thinking of going back to smoking but that has it's negatives too. So I went online looking for ideas and came across this web site that looks so helpful. You all seem so supportive of each other. That is great and most beneficial to those of us who do not get that support at home. I live in New York State and I have 3 children who range in age from 8-24. I want to lose 50 lbs. but right now that seems impossible. But I will give it my best attempt. Looking forward to sharing with you.
  • and for quitting smoking! That's awesome!

You'll find lots of support and help here. Best of luck to you!

  • welcome to the 3FC. WTG on quitting smoking. I gained weight when I quit too. Just look at the bright side..you'll be able to breath when you exercise
  • thanks all
Wesa you are right about the breathing. That should make it easier.
I never exercised much but I have (re)started bicycle riding over the past week. The second day I said I was going on a 5 mile ride, my kids looked doubtful I could do it (the route is a bit hilly) but I did it and while I had to rest on one hill, I did make it with no problems during and/or after.
When I say I never exercised much I mean like going to a gym or repetitive sessions but I am basically an active person. I walk a lot. And do a lot of physical things around the home (split and stack wood, gardening etc.) I guess not enough for my metabolism. Thanks to all who said hi.
