hi Suzie -- your thread title says it all: it is SO, well, weighty, just makes you feel bad sometimes. But as others have said above, you CAN get rid of it.
What eating and exercise plan do you have in mind? You will probably find there's a forum for it here on 3FC, or you might feel at home in one of the weight-based forums, or age-based ones. EVERYWHERE you will find folks in the same boat who really do know what it's like, and for me that has made a world of difference. (I mean, I love my husband madly and he is supportive, but he's not overweight and just cannot hear the siren call of the Mars bar....)
Especially if you have been pretty inactive for a while, start with little, do-able things: drinks LOTS of water; take a walk every day. And tell yourself every day that you are worth it and you CAN do this, b/c you are and you can!
