New here and disgusted with myself
Hi everyone..I am Jennifer..SAHM mom of 2 precious little girls and married to the same wonderful man for 13 years. I have been dieting for what seems FOREVER...I began at 183 and even got down to 149 back in August, but I was involved in a bad accident and the scale is now at 160. I am so disgusted with myself. I am hoping with the support of others and tips from this board I can reach that 135 goal I have been wanting to see for a very long time!!!
Glad to meet you all!!! ***Meant to add that I am also a TYPE 2 Diabetic and currently taking Metphormine and Byetta shots |
Hi Jennifer, and welcome. First thing, don't be disgusted with yourself. Trust me, you'll be much more successful if you are kind, loving and caring towards yourself and your body, no matter what size it is. Think of it this way - losing weight is your new second job, and you are the boss. Who would you rather work for - someone who is judgmental and angry - or someone who is supportive and inspirational? Best of luck. You can do it!

Welcome Jennifer,
I think it's very important, no matter what your current weight, your starting weight, how much weight you have to lose, or how many times you have lost and regained it, to get rid of that disgust. Losing weight is perhaps one of the most difficult things to accomplish, and no one, not even you yourself, should despise you for not being as successful as you dreamed. With a family to care for and an injury to recover from, you did the best you could, and that's all anyone (even you) has a right to ask of yourself. I think our culture has it backwards when it expects us to hate ourselves for not being as thin as we would like, or worse as thin as we are "supposed" to be. You don't need to hate yourself to lose weight. In fact, I believe it's generally counter-productive (why would you take care of a person you hate). Instead, see yourself as a person worthy of the gift of self-care, the pampering of treating your body well with good, tastey, healthful food. Give yourself permission to put yourself, body and soul first (or at least not dead last). You deserve this (and you don't deserve anyone's despising, especially your own). |

Don't be disgusted with yourself, keep a positive attitude, and believe you can change yourself. If you don't do that, no diet or exercise program will ever work for you
