Talking Hello new friends!

Hey, I just found this website today and glad i did. Not only will it give me something to do at work. Hopefully it will motivate me some too!

My name is Katie and I am 26 years old. I live in MI. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I dont want to be super skinny. But being a size 10 would be awesome. All my clothes are too small right now and i dont have the $$$ to buy new ones to accomodate my recent weight gain. It's time to do something! I would like to lose 25-30lbs. I havent figured out how i am going to do this. I have tried everything under the sun when it comes to pills and diets. I need something that i can really live with that doesnt cost a bunch of money. Today i decided i am going to start with cutting my portions in half. Hopefully thats a good start.

I am always open to new ideas and looking for some guidence. If anyone out there knows of any inexpensive ways to lose weight, PLEASE let me know! I dont have money for a gym membership or a bunch of diet food. Often times, we only have food that is donated to us. I cant afford the lean cuts of meat or all that fresh food. I need a "lo income diet!" And if it could be something that i could actually live with and make it a lifestyle change, that would be great too!

I'm excited to be a part of this group! I cant wait to learn from everyone!

Hello from Grand Haven!

Good luck -- looks like we have pretty similar size!

Hi Katie! I'm a Michigander myself! Just joined yesterday. This is a great place so far and everyone is very nice and helpful! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do already!

As far as your question about a low-income diet... I have a few suggestions. I did an internship with a welfare organization a while back. They taught people how to eat healthy on a low budget. Believe it or not, poverty is blamed as one of the main causes of obesity in this country. Sounds silly, but if you think about it, it makes sense. Food that is good for you seems to cost way more than a 99 cent cheeseburger from McDonalds!
Anyway, I think cutting portions in half is a good start. Tuna is cheap. Peanut butter. Rice. Beans. Healthy stuff and not a strain on the $$. Scour your supermarket ads for the best deals on fruits & veggies and poultry. And remember the best diet staple of all is always free... WATER!

Good luck in your efforts!

~Sandy~

Good luck with this... I think coming to the website regularly really helps keep you on track and you realize you're not the only one who feels fat on any given day. You'll see the pounds drop in no time if you commit yourself. I count calories and excercise, seems to be working well since I cut my calories (4 days ago) I lost a pound...

welcome Katie!

The cheapest form of lifestyle change I know is simple calorie counting. We have a whole forum for that and there are several free online calorie trackers. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=172

And as for exercise, walking and pushups, situps, etc. are all free. And you can get exercise videos from your library if you are interested.

Keep posting in lots of places and we will help you get started!
