Default Scale Problems

Hello to all! I've been lurking for about 1 month now and everyone here has truly been a inspiration and motivator to me. I believe it's really important to post the good and the bad, especially the bad because it makes others feel that they are not alone in their everyday struggles.

My problem is I can't find a accurate scale! I weigh myself when I go to the YMCA with the old fashion scale...which is always accurate. When it's time for me to weigh myself at home I have a digital scale which is about 7 pounds off...I wonder if it's the battery? Anywho I guess this wouldn't be a problem if I got to the YMCA every week, but some weeks I may have to work out at home..thus not being able to weigh in @ the Y.

Also, has anyone tried not weighing in every week maybe every month...sometimes the week to week weigh in can be a roller coaster ride?

Any suggestions?

Sorry so long winded! Thanks a Bunch guys!

I don't know about your scale but I have heard that weighing once a month is too long. The week to week may seem like a rollercoaster but it gives you an idea of your own patterns of loss.

If it was me....I'd use one scale and ONLY the one scale. You'll drive yourself nuts otherwise. I weigh myself daily...but I'm used to the fluctuations. How do you know the home scale is wrong? Actually as long as it's consistantly 7 pounds off - you are ok. Just make sure you weigh yourself at the same time of day each time. For me it's first thing in the morning before coffee and after the bathroom.

I agree with what has been said here already. Use one scale and weigh yourself at the same time every week. I weigh in the morning after the bathroom, but before breakfast.

I've heard that digital scales can be unreliable for a variety of a reasons. If it is a cheap one or old, then it might be the scale itself. Digital scales are also thrown off by an uneven surface beneath. If yours is on carpet, make sure you move it to a flat surface. Also, slight dips or slopes in the floor and give you wonky readings. I leave mine in the same spot on a tiled floor.

However, if your scale is consistently 7 pounds different than the YMCA scale, then just account for those 7 pounds and subtract them from your weight.

If you are in the market for a new scale, then I have a recommendation. I did some research and got the Taylor Lithium Electronic Scale from Target. It was only $25-$30 and it has been extremely accurate for me. I've tested it out and re-weighed myself several times in a row, and it always gives me the same result. I've been very happy with it and would rec it to anyone looking for a good digital scale at a low price.
