Lightbulb New Fat Chick On The Block!

Hello Everyone, my name is Faina (in Russian we write it like Фаина if you were interested ) But my friends call me Vlada. (Long story)

I am 17 year old girl and i am originally russian but have been living in UK (london) for almost 2 years now since i was 15. I am only 155cm (5''1) tall and i weight 76kg (167lb) I have been tryign to lose weight since i moved to UK when i was 15 but it never worked before because i am addicted to sweet foods.

Which is why i need help! i dont really know what to do because i am addicted to chocolate and sweet foods and cakes which stop me losing weight. My mother always buys them because they are for my brothers and father so i cant even make her stop buying them when she goes shopping It is worst when i am at home after finishing college in the day time and i get bored around the house but if it is too late to go out and there is nothing else to do so then i go into the kitchen and start to snack on chocolates and cakes that i find And i cant stop at just one, but i always eat the whole lot that i find and cant stop myself

I dont know what to do i dont want to be fat anymore because i hate it so i really want help even though i dont know how you can help. You all seem lovely people so i hope you will support and help me if you can even though i am not sure if i will ever lose weight because i have tried and failed before. Sometimes i even try to start but i just give up because i tell myself i will always fail eventually as i always do Please help!!

Thankyou for reading this everybody. x i hopeyou can help and that i can help you x

Hi WillGetThere, and

It is hard to avoid the foods we like sometimes, especially if they are readily available. The most important thing you can do is make a firm decision that you are NOT going to eat them, and then come up with alternatives to eat instead and other activities to keep you out of the kitchen.

Foods that we "can't stop at just one" are known around here as "trigger foods" - you eat them, and you just want more. For me, a major trigger food is nuts...particular cashews. I had to make a commitment not to eat nuts when I have access to a lot of them (a bowl of nuts at an event, or a bag in my pantry). That doesn't mean I can't ever have nuts (or that you can't ever have another cookie or piece of chocolate or cake), but that I have to eat them when the portion is already determined for me.

What can you snack on when you get home that isn't going to have that effect on you? What about planning your meals and snacks for the day, so that when you get home and want something to eat, you have a healthy snack all planned and ready to go? Having a plan is CRUCIAL, for me, for avoiding eating more than I'd like of foods that aren't healthy for me.

Keep posting - can't wait to hear more from you soon.

Hi Faina, I love sweets too. So what I did was instead of eating junk I started eating fruit all the time. Just little changes like that can make a big difference. If you put your mind to it I'm sure you can lose weight!

Hey & It will take some time, willpower and hard work. But you'll make it! You're making a great first start, planning healthier snacks and so on ^^ If you can, you might want to let your mother know and go shopping with her so that you can help her choose some good foods for you to have instead of sweets! Best of luck!!

hey!! welcome to the site! its amazing and i hope you find a ton of support here
loosing weight is really hard, especially when you have very little control of the foods that are bought and kept in the house. loosing weight as a teen is different than when you are an adult living in your own home.
we have a teens forum:

there arent a ton of teens on here, but there are enough and we would love to have you join us!

So you had one piece of chocolate cake, its a slip up, not the end of the world. You need to be able to pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again (as the words of the song goes). Have you tried something like Weight Watchers? Would your parents be supportive of you attending? I say this because there they will discuss behaviour like you've described (thinking you're a failure because you go off track a little) and make you look at things more positively rather than considering yourself a failure. The example given is if you accidentally break a saucer you don't go and smash to full tea-set. So if you break your diet once why not just leave it at that and just move on. I think to be successful you will need to change your mindset as well as your eating habits.

Regards

Kitty

Privyet, Vlada.

I am learning Russian from friends I have here in the USA. I can really relate to your message. I'm 5'2" and got up to 167 lbs. Two years ago I started a weight program and lost 25 pounds. Then, the divorce happened and I gained 15 back.

Sugar is a big problem for me, and I have discovered that using the glycemic index and sticking with a formula of 1/2 cup whole grains, 1/2 cup protein and 1 cup of fruits low in natural sugar like apples and/or non starchy veggies along with 2 cups of water at every meal, every 3 hours, I have fewer cravings for sugar and I feel better in general.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing your progess.

Laura.
