Default Desparate Lonely Housewife

Hi Everyone,
I'm 57 married for 30 years and weigh 220 lbs. I need support because every day I am reduced to tears. My family is thin and I hear just stop eating. Living in LA adds to my depression, this is thin city. I was hoping to mee friends and share thoughts, help each other through this rough time.
My name is Ellen.

Hello Ellen! I am also in Southern California and know what you mean about "thin city"! What plan are you following? (calorie counting, WW, South Beach etc.). Knowing that will help us know how to help you.

Hiya and welcome! Know exactly what you mean, while personally I don't live in a thin city, all of my friends (and I do mean ALL!) are very thin about a size 8 (which I think in the USA is a size 2) and don't understand my weight problem. Makes me feel very miserable and often stay in because of it.
But you've definitly come to the right place - everyone here is really friendly & very supportive. We're all here for you & good luck on your weight loss journey!

Welcome! I have become a housewife in the last month. I have left a 70 hour a week job for sitting on the couch all day. OOPS!

This place is great. I just recently joined myself and feel at home here. They like me, they really like me!

Hi Ellen, I also live in LA and understand exactly what you mean about LA being thin city. There is so much pressure here to look good and I'm not even talking beautiful - just healthy. I work at a company where the average age of employees is 25 which also adds to the pressure. However, I can hold my own with anyone. I just want to look as chic and put together as I feel on the inside - want the outside to reflect it. This website is a great source of support and if you need any buddy encouragement or just need to vent, you can always do it here because Lord knows there will be ups and downs. Wishing you much success in your weight loss journey!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I haven't decided on a plan as of yet. In the past I tried planned diets and soon gave up. This time I'm trying just to make healthy choices to begin. I appreciate all the kind words and support. It makes me feel better already.

Hi Ellen!

You are among friends here! I lived in L.A. and know JUST what you mean

If it was as easy as "just stop eating" we would have no weight to lose!! But you're in luck, 3FC has lots of great info, helpful support groups.

Check out www.fitday.com, a free site that lots of people use with this one. You log in what you eat, Fit Day calculates calories, and breaks 'em down by fat/carb/protein. I've learned alot about just exactly how many and what type of calories is in the foods I eat.

Hope to see you around the site & best of luck on your journey!

Native FAT Angelino here! Boy do I hear ya. But it's OK! You'll get tons of support here at 3FC and one thing I've only recently (at age 47) come to realize: I can't wait to look a certain way to be thankful for all the good things I have in my life, can't wait for a certain number on the scale to love and respect myself.

Welcome!

i think just making small steps in the right direction is the best thing you can do,it sounds cheesy but lots of small steps add up too one giant leap

Hi Ellen!

I'm new here too and I know what you mean about having family that say those things. My family seems to talk about it every chance they get. It's frustrating, because they don't understand that I do think about it EVERYDAY and it is tearing me apart. I just moved back to Connecticut from LA. I was only there for a year, but there is a lot of added pressure over there. I was working as a makeup artist in film and I didn't think it was going to be that bad, but I was very wrong.

I just wanted to say Hi! My name is Jfer, by the way. If you ever need a support buddy, I would love to help! This site seems great for that... Good luck with everything and hope to talk to you more!

Jfer
