Smile Hello from the fattest state in the country

Hello! I'm Samantha, new to this web site. I've spent all evening reading posts and looking for my nitch here. I started working on my weight last month when my family went on a mini vacation to Vicksburg. I couldn't keep up with them and ruined the entire vacation for everyone. I was gasping for air the entire time. So, I came home and got busy! I've lost 10 lbs so far and feel very good so far.

I've lost and gained my entire life, but would like to make permanent changes this time.

I'm looking forward to meeting new friends.

Welcome, I knew right where you were from when I read your thread title, unfortunately. Hey, at least we're #1 for something.

This is a great website. There are lots of wonderful threads to post in.

Congratulations on your loss so far.

Hey Samantha!
While I'm back up in Washington, I was a Hattiesburg-gal while I went to Southern Miss.

Welcome to the board. The people here are the best. They have patiently responded to my questions, offered support when I was done, and celebrated my success.

Good luck and keep in touch.

Kylie

Oh, nothing feels worse than feeling like you're holding others back - I've been there too many times to count!

I'm glad you found this board. I honestly don't know where I'd get the support if not for these fantastic people. Best of luck to you!!!

Hi Samantha! My name is Samantha too but you can call me Sammi! I'm new here as well. The first 10 lbs can be just as hard as the last 10 lbs so keep up the good work!

You mentioned that you've lost 10# so far, how have you changed your eating/exercise to accomplish that? Have you chosen a specific diet or are you just eating less..moving more? I love hearing success stories and it sounds like you're off to a good start [/quote

Thanks for the warm welcome! First of all, I was eating a LOT of food, so I think the 10 lbs just melted off when I stopped eating so much. I am on a vegan diet, not militantly, but as a way to eat healthier. I tried high protein and just ended up gaining more weight in my middle. I was a pear until my Atkins trip and am now and an apple.

I swim for an hour a day right now. Well, I swim hard, then run around the pool and then swim until an hour has passed. I am going to start weights next week. The last time I lost a lot of weight, I did it by doing weight training.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Default Great to see so many from Mississippi

Hi again! Thanks for the warm welcome! It's so neat to "meet" others from MS. We've lived here for 11 years after retiring from the military. I wasn't really surprised when they announced that Mississippi is the fattest state in the country... so many things here are swimming in bacon fat or fried..they even fry pickles! That just amazes me!

I have to admit, I was overweight long before we came here and don't have to eat fried foods and gravy to be this heavy. I think that when other people lose weight, it runs out the door and finds me, jumps on my backside and settles in for a long visit!
