Default New and wondering

Hi, I am new to this site and was wondering which diet would be the bests to try out first. I have been on several diets in the past, but never stick to it long enough for results....any good advice?
I have also found the "indoor walking " DVD and have started doing that 3 times a week. My husband went out and bought me a mountain bike so that I could ride with him, but he is more into it than I am, and I have trouble keeping up.
So....any advice on the diets out there?
Also I need people to talk with...just moved (AGAIN) to a new town, my husband gets transferred alot, and I dont meet people very well, to make accaintences.

Also ...I LOVE MT COFFEE drinks is there a low cal option that anyone knows of?

Thanks Anji

Browse around... see what you find... there are reviews of different food plans on this site, as well as forums (see "Diet Central" on the main forums page).

tappyjoe, of course it is hard to keep up with your husband on the bike. He should slow down instead. Better yet, find another woman you can ride with--that makes better sense.

joeysammy, just start again with the workouts, but don't be in a hurry about it--that is, don't overdo it. It's easy to over-exercise and then get discouraged. Keep trying!

Glad to "see" you both. Stick around!

Diets never really worked for me. I mean, they do at start, then I get so tired of them that I quit. The only real lasting results I've had are by making small, substainable changes to my eating/exercising patterns that I could keep up over time.

A good place to start is by keeping an accurate journal of what you are eating now. Do it for a week or so. Then change one thing. For me, the first change was from going from eating a Hungry Man dinner for lunch everyday at work to a more sensible Lean Cuisine or the like. Sure, I was hungier at first for a while, but I adapted. About a week later, I changed something else.

I also eased into exercising. I started with just 10 minutes a day. It was a bother, a pain, and I simply didn't want to, but 10 minutes a day wasn't all that big a trouble. Then, to my surprise, I found that I could add in five minutes here or there without it being that much more of a burden.

For me, I know that if I stop doing what I am doing, I will start to gain the weight back almost at once. So for me, it made sense to do things that I found I could do, and can do, forever. I don't have to lose fast, but regaining simply isn't an option for me anymore.

Another suggestion is to read through old posts here, and see what people who have had a degree of success you like have done to drop the pounds. Ask people directly. I think everyone here would love to share the "how I did it" part with newcomers. I don't think that one approach will work for everyone, but with so many success stories here, you might be able to copy something that will work for you.
