Hi from Scotland everyone!
I'm a newbie around here, but not to trying to lose weight unfortunately. Had a couple of successful attempts with WW but had to stop going to meetings due to financial reasons and found motivation difficult on my own.
My last "go" at WW was at the start of 2006 (jan to march) and I failed to lose weight during that time. WW leader suggested I go to the doctor as I was following my points and the lbs just were not shifting. March 2006, after some tests, I was diagnoised with hypothyroidism and am now on 100mcg levothyroxine daily. Those lbs still haven't shifted despite my hypothyroidism being treated! Being this much overweight (210lbs at 5ft 3in) is getting me down and being a UK size 20-22 makes clothes shopping almost impossible. My search for clothes starts by looking through the store to see what they have in my size instead of looking at what I actually like. Not good. I have 2 young daughters - DD1 is 3 and a half and DD2 is 21 months. I don't want to be the fat mummy at the school gates come a year and a bit when my eldest starts proper school....but more than that I would love to be fitter and more able to play with my kids properly now. I am ashamed to say I never take my kids to the park unless I have someone else with me incase one of them runs off and I can't catch up with them before they get to a road etc.... This is not how I want my life to be! I am also terrified that my kids will grow up with a skewed view on food - mummy always on a diet etc.... So anyway, here I am all 210lbs of me hoping to shrink before your eyes, I have a feeling I am going to need all the help I can get! :D take care everyone Nikki x |
Good luck Nikki and welcome! I'm a newbie mom here too and I can understand your fears about not being able to play with your kids. Before I started dieting I was running out of breath just walking from my driveway to my front door, it was bad, now that I have been walking 45 minutes a day/ 5 days a week I can already feel a difference in just 11 days. Take it slow at first and just do some walking, you'll never belive the impact it will make :) Again, good luck to you!

Welcome Nikki from another Scottish girl.
Pop into the chat thread in the UK fat chicks. We're a friendly bunch :) |
Hi Nikki......welcome. You and I seem to be trying to reach the same weight and are at about the same weight now. I joined the site last week. I started at 205 and am now at 200. I live in Pennsylvania and have 3 kids, Frank age 19, Julian 16 and Sarah 11. Good luck to you! :-)

Thanks everyone!
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Definately going to try walking more - shouldn't be too hard - I bought a treadmill (is only a manual but quite good) so I can walk outside when its nice and inside when its not so nice! I'm trying the calorie approach this time around and also going for "Mini meals" instead of 3 large meals. Do we have a recipe thread somewhere on the forums where I could get some healthy ideas? take care Nikki |
