Default Hi!

My name is Lori, I'm 27 and I live in San Diego. I've been big my whole life and yo-yo dieted most of it as well. I'm 2 1/2 weeks into my Medifast diet and so far I'm down 17 pounds. I go to a group meeting with a nutritionist (free through the program) once a week which teaches us about what to do after Medifast. I also am going to be seeing my doctor once a month to check in and make sure everything is going smoothly. Things are going successfully this time (so far) and I'm really hoping that I stick to the change in lifestyle when I meet my goal.

Hi Lori! I'm new too, just signed up today. I also live in San Diego (just temporarily though). Good luck on your program. How is Medifast? I looked into that but the food didn't look real good so I decided to pass on it. It looks like it's working for you though...which is a plus.

^^..^^ jessica

Hi Jessica! Medifast is hard but easy at the same time. Some of the foods I like and some I don't. I've found that I can't drink the shakes. Something about the soy and sweetners make me sick, but my mom who is doing this with me likes the shakes. Most of the soups I think are great, she hates and vice versa. So it's really a matter of trial and error to find which of their foods will work for you. It's easy in the sense that you take a packet of food and dump it in a bowl, add water and zap it and you're ready to eat. The down side is if you're going somewhere that you don't have access to a microwave then you are stuck drinking a shake or eating a bar (which the bar has about 50-60 calories more then the rest of the suppliments). The beginning week was **** as it is with most diets and once I got use to it I was having to remind myself to eat the 5 suppliments a day. But it's working!! I attend a weekly meeting (Thursday evening) with a nutritionist who talks about dieting in general and what to do once you are off the plan. The support and information is very helpful.

So why are you here only temporarily and where are you going?

Hey Lorihatesokra....i left you a message on the "does it work group" about a medifast board here. I guess I kind of found it on my own!!!

I'm like your mother. I'll take the shakes anyday over the other stuff. The first time I ordered it I got the whole selection and couldn't stand anything but the vanilla shakes. I did buy some of the DaVinci sugar free syrups to sweeten them but truthfully it's easier for me to just drink it down in a couple quick gulps and not really savor it.

My second biggest obstacle is that we tend to go out to eat A LOT. I'm trying to put an end to this though. Or at least severely limit it. By far my biggest obstacle though is my pepsi addiction. Can't make the switch to diet and can't stand anything else.

So are you exercising yet? What do you have for your "lean and green"? Are you taking any supplements? I know in the past there was talk of hair loss and it was suggested you take fish oil and some other supplement. I'll have to double check (I have them both at home). I also add a good dose of psyllium fiber to my shakes and it keeps me VERY er....regular! I tend to carry A LOT of my weight in my tummy and I know this helps it really go down.

I have been exercising... well at least I was till this past weekend. I got lazy and then had Easter at my family, then a baseball game and then yesterday I fell asleep at 4 and slept through the night. I'm going to be back on track again today. The week I did exercise I only lost 3 pounds though. I've read other places that it makes you lose less but they didn't say why. My fiance keeps saying it's because I'm gaining muscle but I'm not convinced I gained that much muscle in that quick of time lol.

We use to eat out a lot!! Now that I'm on this we don't. My fiance is doing his own version of a low calorie diet and with him just cutting back he's dropping weight like nothing. Sometimes I just wish I were a man lol. I use to be addicted to Dr. Pepper. I wouldn't drink anything else. Then we switched to diet and I was ok with that but if we went somewhere that didn't have Dr. Pepper I simply drank water and then that slowly followed over to home. Now water is about the only think I drink and I'm glad I was able to kick that habit.

I'm on the full fast which doesn't eat the L&G meal and has to be medically supervised. I actually have been eating a L&G about once a week though. My doctor said it wont hurt if I need one every once in a while and like for Easter it was nice to be able to eat with the family. They had turkey and salad so I said what the heck. But typically it's just 5 suppliments a day and that's it. I am taking a multi vitamin, fish oil and sugar free citrucel. I haven't had any problems with regularity and I'm hoping it's because I started taking the citrucel as soon as I started the diet. I actually hadn't heard about the hair falling out but I did hear about it completely drying you out.

I'm beginning to think my diet is going to start consisting of the oatmeal, stew and eggs since those are the ones I like the most lol. My mom had bought a 4 week supply of the various things from some lady off of Craigslist and gave me about 2 weeks worth of food to try. I finally placed an order about 2 weeks ago so I'm just slowly learning what I like. I only have 1 box of oatmeal so I'm using is sparingly till I can order again. I had ordered 3 boxes of shakes because at that point I was still ok with the chocolate. It just seems like each time I drink one I get even more grossed out by them so now I'm just not even using them anymore. I'm also finding with the temps getting hotter that I'm not really wanting to eat the soups. I still like them but when it's time to eat I just don't want hot soup. I'm loving the iced cappuccino though!

I bought a 7 pack of mini bottles of flavor drops from Capelli's Coffee to use in the shakes and out of the 7 I was only able to stomach 1 of them lol. It might have just been the shakes though and not the drops. I found the Chocolate Peanut Butter one worked in the chocolate shakes. You don't taste PB at all but it gave it a little better chocolate flavor. That's another thing I like about my weekly meetings, you can take the things you don't like and trade, sell or give them to people that will use them. The meetings are actually through the Take Shape for Life program. When you decide to jump back on the bandwagon you should check your area and see if they have meetings.

I'm actually on the wagon effective today!! So far I have been perfect! Of course, it's the first day. I still have a lot of water I need to get in though. Do they tell you to count the water that you mix the shakes with as part of your daily necessary water intake?

So far I can't stand anything but the vanilla shakes and those I quickly chug down and then down a bunch of water to kill the after taste. It's not as bad as it sounds, really!!! I feel full and as long as I can stay full I can stay on this just fine. I'm hoping as long as I keep plenty of water in me I won't be craving the Pepsi but so far that has been my downfall on every single diet I have tried.

I know what you mean about men. When I was married my thin husband put on about 20 pounds and decided to just cut back a little and sure enough it melted right off him. Ugh I hated that. He could just never understand why that wouldn't work for me.....

Have you let others (besides your fiance and mom) know what plan your doing? I'm trying to keep it a secret because in the past EVERYBODY had something to say about how horrible it was and how unhealthy etc.... Personally I think this is the healthiest plan I can be on and I really hope I'll stick to it this time. I have some things coming up in June that I know I will go off plan for and thats ok. The other option was to start AFTER June and that just didn't make sense.

Yay!! Congrats for getting back on track! The water for the shakes does not count in your daily intake. I can't stand sink water so I buy the aquafina bottles from Walmart ($4 a case) and I make sure I drink 2 before I leave work and usually 1 bottle with dinner and another before bed. Sometimes to get the water down I add a packet of crystal light to it and that seems to make it easier. My doctor said to count diet soda, crystal light, etc. as water intake just not the shakes. I've read other posts on here not to count those as water.

Do you have other family members in the house that are drinking the pepsi too? Try to keep it out of the house because going to get it is more of a pain then not having it... well I'd hope so anyway lol.

Everyone in my life knows about my diet. I work for a company that does management consulting and *motivational speaking*... everyone here is positive and motivational about anything you do lol. I find it's strangers that have never heard of MF or anything like it that take the "Oh that can't be healthy" attitude. Most of the time I try fending them off by explaining that I am doing this with the supervision of my doctor and most of the time they seem ok with it once they hear that.

I also had things coming up. I even have one even this weekend for my fiance's work. We put in our meal choice way back when and once I started the diet he tried to change it from beef to chicken or fish but it was too late. I'm planning to fill up on salad and only eat a couple bites of the meat. I decided 3 weeks ago that if I waited for these things to pass that something else would come up before I could start and it'd end up being a vicious cycle. I passed up the first big dinner I was supposed to attend, made it with a lean green for easter and then will do my best on Sat. But instead of waiting I'm 3 weeks into my plan and 17 pounds down. I'm so glad I didn't wait.
