Hi from DC Metro Area
Hi,
I'm 26 and this is my first time actively pursuing weight loss. I was always incredibly active, playing Division I tennis. However, even being very muscular, I had a large frame and was a size 12 in high school. Through undergraduate and graduate school, I was incredibly active, going to the gym three times a day and running ten miles every morning Anyway, back in 2003, I had my daughter and I'm a single mom, so I have nobody to watch her to go to the gym and I haven't had as much time for physical activity. I have gained substantial weight since my weight pre-pregnancy (going from a size 12 to 18) and probably weigh in the neighborhood of 215-230 right now (I ordered a scale, but haven't received it yet). I am trying to find good activities that I can do with my daughter (4), as I'm a single mom and don't have anyone to leave her with to go to the gym. I'm a policy analyst and am nearly ABD (all but dissertation) on my PhD. I'm not sure on a precise goal weight, but I'm hoping to get to my pre-pregnancy weight (165 at my first pre-natal appointment) at this point, then try to lose more weight from there.
I have never been a junk food eater. I don't care for chocolate or sweets, but as an athlete, I am so used to carb-loading and eating so many carbohydrates and I have been eating an athlete's diet, while getting minimal exercise and activity. I'm trying to both improve my diet and find ways to get active with a small child at home. I did buy some weights and exercise videos (in college, I was bench pressing 185 pounds, but I am trying to lose weight and tone, not necessarily build muscle). I also live in a condo and have a pool, but generally, all my time in the pool is spent splashing around with my daughter.
Any advice you have would be appreciated. Oh, and I'm in the Washington, DC Metro Area .
