New and need help

  • I am at a loss, don’t have a clue which way to turn. I have been a diabetic for several years. Last October my sugar started acting crazy. My doctor finally put me on insulin in January. I started out on 8 units of levemir, and have gone to 40 units now and take 45 mgs of Actos. I have been using the weight watchers diet for a month and only lost 2 pounds. I work out 3-5 days a week for 1 hour. Nothing is bringing my readings down.

So today I decided that I would do the low carb diet. At least that might bring down my readings. I just need some motivation to not give up, which is exactly what I want to do. Anyway, this is where I am.

But I am happy to be here.
    thanks
  • A big to this website! WW is an excellent program but a lot of diabetics follow Sugar Busters or South Beach to cut carbs. There is a whole part of this Forum dedicated to Dealing with Diabetes. Just click on this link and start reading and posting. There is lots of information and support there and the chicks are friendly.

If you want, I can move this first post of yours to that area.
  • that would be great, thanks
  • HI, I'm a nurse and I went went to siminar about diabetes. The Dr. said that diet and exercise were better than insulin for controling diabetes. It takes both. If not totally control yours at least make it possible for you to cut down a lot. Diabetes is a terrible disease that affects even part of your body. I am cheering for you! I know you can lose the weight if you really try. WW is a good heathy diet too. The ADA is a good sourse of information too.
