Default A newbie from Texas



Hi Ya'll! I'm new here, being introduced to 3FC by my cyber-sister Karen (jovimom!) I'm going to give the South Beach diet a try - and tomorrow is the first day of .....well, you know!

Stocked up on the food items I need, and even splurged and bought a new lithum scale! I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was less than I thought I was, but still need to do some serious droppage!

A little background on me - I'm 45, mother to four boys (ages 22 to 14), men, I guess - and married to my hubby for 25 years this year! I have a great deal of orthopedic problems in my hips, knees and back, due to being born with both hips out of socket. So exercise is very limited for me. On the good side, all my weight is regulated to belly fat, so I guess that's good. I'm anxious to see how the SB diet attacks that belly fat!

If anyone knows of some good moderate exercises that someone with arthritis can tackle, I'd be very interested! Walking is limited, but I do want to try to do some, maybe with my hubby some. There is a nice track near my work.

Okay, that's me in a nutshell! Oh, and I'm a huge Bon Jovi fan (right, Karen!) which explains the user name!

Sharon ... sounds like you are on your way; got a food plan, and walking is a good way to start. We just started a "PHYSICAL CHALLENGES" thread in Dieting with Obstacles group, as we have some limitations as well. I do walking, hand weights, stretches and chair reps, rowing, etc. (BTW housework counts too).

I also want to try swimming aquatics (underwater exercise) as soon as our complex is ready to start. Hope this helps you a little; look around, you're sure to find more ideas. Glad you joined us ~ a fellow encourager ... Rosebud.

Hey there!

Deep water aerobics (not shallow) is really good for those with joint problems because it gets the weight completely off the joints. Also, exercise bikes, depending on the type, are helpful for the same reason--but you have to try different kinds to see what works and what doesn't.

Losing weight is, of course, very helpful for joints! I'm amazed at what a difference it has made for me.

There's a South Beach forum here also--check out Diet Central if you haven't found it already.
