Default Wanting to lose weight and don't have the motivation

Hi everyone,

I've decided that i need to lose weight. This is something that is weighing on my mind a lot. I'm 5'2 and weigh 206 in essence I am short and fat . I want to lose 25-50 pounds but getting started is hard for me. I eat emotionally. I just realized this a couple of months ago. I am stuck. I went to the doctor today to talk to her about how i should lose weight. She gave me a 1800 ADA diet sheet and told me to exercise. I don't know what I was looking for but I wanted something more. I don't know what I need but it's something so that I can get started. I have great determination if I can get my mind made up but this is really hard and i don't want to lose weight if it means I can't eat what I want when I want.

I hate the way i look in the mirror. It is shocking everytime I see myself because my mental picture of myself is totally different than reality. I need someone to talk to. Can anyone help me, hope so.

Getting started was hardest for me as well! One I set my mind to losing weight though things kinda fell into place and I got the motivation I needed. This site is a big help too because you will never feel alone here! Lots of people will root for you and help you out anytime you are in need. Congrats on taking the first step, if you need anything I'd be more than willing to help you out so let me know! Good luck!

gb7453,

You found the right place! We all feel the same you do. When we wanna fill our faces with those comforting cookines, we get on the board and chat. There is always someone listening.

I like the Excersing thread. It keeps me very motivated. Everyone makes their own goal for the month in minutes. Seems like a lot of minutes when you add it all up. When you get to the end of the month and you reach the goal, it is so rewarding and you get the prize! A stronger sexier you. I reccomend it highly! (as I type with my sore arms)

Welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome. I am new here too. I am debating going on the SBD again, it worked for me in 2005, but how lazy am I to not just do it??? Very!

I have modified my diet with counting calories, eating more chicken/fish/veggies...and walking more...

I was eating crappy processed foods, so now I think it is just keeping track of calories and excercising and eating the right foods.

My downfall is cheese. I love that and bread. Which is why I should and probably will kick my own butt with the Phase 1 of the beach. It worked out great before, I just hate to give up the bread!!

Hi gb!

Welcome!

Bikini, Vegas, and Chewy have all had great things to say! I agree with them that this is a very suppportive site and that you will find a great deal of help here in planning ways to lose the weight that you want to lose. There are so many interesting people on the site and thousands of inspiring stories! It seems that I am motivated just by hearing that others have accomplished THEIR weight loss, so I know that I can do it, too!

Things that are helping me are journalling my successes, my thoughts, my hopes for my new body, exercising with DVDs, drinking water instead of soda, planning out my day of eating, planning IN a treat so that I can enjoy it without feeling guilty, Fitday, counting calories, and eating enough fiber.

My motivation method changes as I go along my weight loss journey. At first I was motivated by discovering that taking off 15 pounds made me feel so much lighter as I was doing my daily walk. When I hit 25 lbs. lost my coworkers started to notice and I felt motivated by their sweet comments that I was "losing weight and looking great." From there on it has been my victory with clothing. Being able to wear Misses sizes in a regular clothing department that wasn't for Plus Size (HATE THAT TERM!!! ) was SUCH a boost to my self-esteem and my overall motivation!! Right now I have two things that are motivating me -first, making it to ONEderland (under 200 lbs.) and then fitting into the beautiful beaded mother-of-the-groom dress I bought for my son's wedding.

I weigh myself every morning and am eating about 1500 calories a day. I exercise every day for an hour to an hour and a half. I am watching fats, drinking my water, and coming here often for extra inspiration!

As I reach each mini-goal I find myself to be very thankful that I put in the effort. I gather even more strength by responding to posts from others who I know are fighting the same battle as I am! I truly can feel uplifted by hearing that others CAN succeed and ARE succeeding!

I hope that you will post often and find the motivation that you need. If you haven't already, go check out the GOALS and MINI-GOALS section. What inspiration THOSE stories are!!!
