Thank you, LizRR. I'm really hoping this sticks this time. Bev
  • Starting Up on IP Again
I had done the IP diet in 2017 and was successful at losing the weight and keeping most of it off...that is until my mom got sick in the fall of 2018, where I spent 3 months pretty much on a daily basis at the hospital, which threw my eating and workout schedule completely out of whack. Then after she passed in December, I've been pretty much eating my way through my grief all of this year (carbs are so comforting!), and now I found myself 30 lbs. heavier than I should be. I decided to get back in control of my weight and just started the IP protocol on August 1. This time I'm trying the route of IP Alternative foods, so I hope I have as much success with them as I did with the IP foods. I love coming on this forum to see everyone's successes--it's very motivating!

I'm sorry about your mom passing. I hope you are doing well.

What are IP Alternative foods? And not to get too graphic/TMI, but did you have serious digestive issues while on this plan? I have had a very bad response to something I'm eating in which I'm literally using the bathroom 5-6 times in one hour until everything is "out." I'm trying to not be too specific because it's not something many people want to read about, but it is definitely a concern. Thanks for any advice!

I didn't have any digestive issues with IP, but I stayed away from products that contained milk and soy since I am both lactose and soy intolerant. Could it be that you have some sort of intolerance to something as well? As for IP Alternative foods, these are just other brands of foods that are comparable to the IP foods (same amounts of protein/carbs/calories/fats/ingredients), but you can get them elsewhere online etc. Check out Nashua Nutrition's website, where you can search for IPA-compatible foods--both unrestricted and restricted. The site also contains an IPA calculator where you can type in the nutritional info of a product (protein/fats/calories/carbs) to see if it's IP compatible.
  • Thank you so much! I'm going to check this site out as the Ideal Protein program I'm on is pretty expensive. Appreciate the recommendation!

Welcome Emsim! I'm 45yo too, I have an 8yo, 5yo, and 3yo. I did IP almost 6 years ago successfully, then got my back to back pregnancies with the girls and working through my son's autism diagnosis (mostly through food) - I've come to a point I need to take care of myself - I'm not perfect though, and the weekends are my weakness. Coming back on this forum always helps kick myself to start the week off right though!
  • So far, so good?
Hi all, I started on July 29th, and have lost around 11 pounds. Another 40-45 to go. I too am counting what I eat and I'm not always hitting 1000 calories per day. Plus, the carb counts aren't around 35-40 grams, they're more like 50. Not sure exactly what they're supposed to be because even the coaches are unclear. Anyone know anything more specific re what the macros are supposed to be, at least roughly?
