  • Well, here's the plan.... 'murrcat' (Sheri) and her hubby and DH & I are going on a wineries/cideries cycle tour on Friday. Going to pack a good higher fat & protein and lowish carb lunch to take with us - carbs will be up anyhow due to wines & ciders.
I refuse to sniff, swish, & spit; I'm there to swallow the good stuff, dammit, lol.

It's going to be pretty warm - 28 or 30C and sunny so it should be a lovely day. I will take pictures and may post a few here and on the FB page.

Hysteria_625, I don't miss running, but I sure do miss lifting

Thanks to not doing the crazy snacking at night for the past 3 nights, I am back down to 140 and aiming lower. Once my period starts I could just care less about most foods, but Pre- is murder! I cannot get enough of certain yummy foods, and sometimes I go from food to food trying to find exactly what it is that I am really wanting. It's never sweets, it is always salty proteins & fats, savoury stuff. Drives me bats! Good thing I don't have periods very often these days or I'd probably weigh 169 again pretty soon.

    Liana
  • Well not sure to follow that up.... Ummm I have no periods and have slide into month 4, weight has remained stable with the occasional up/down after a weekend!
  • Liana - Hope you and Murrcat had a great time yesterday! Sounds like a lot of fun!!

Hysteria - Good to see you!! Love to hear that your DH turned a guest room into a gym. Good for you for getting into bodybuilding!

Poking my head in to say hello. Starting a reboot this week after surgery back in March and some traveling this summer. I am finally in a place to get serious about P1 and getting some extra lbs off. I am up 20lbs from goal at the moment. Of course, I was never very good at staying at goal. Was 8lbs up at the end of March when I had surgery and couldn't get into ketosis for 3 months (per my Dr). With travel and summer fun, I am up another 10lbs. Will do the official WI tomorrow morning. Eek!

Like Hysteria, I have become super active at the gym 4-5 days a week. I have endurance and great muscle tone but my favorite jeans are too tight so P1 here I come!

My biggest struggle with P1 is not being able to work out. I have gone round and round with my IP coach on this. And then one day we were talking about the study that came out on the Biggest Loser contestants. She tells me "this is why you can't work out while in ketosis. Those people lost fat AND muscle because they were dieting AND working out. They were burning muscle and muscle is SO hard to rebuild. This is why they are struggling to maintain. You only lost fat." So I am committing to a month of P1 and no working out. 100%. At the end of a month I can re-evaluate gym vs P1. Fingers crossed I just get the job done quickly!!

Good to see those who are still around!
  • Hi everyone! Murrcat & I had a wonderful time with our hubbies toodling around on our bikes and tasting at wineries and cideries the other day! Turns out we have so much more in common than I even anticipated, lol. It was non-stop fun from 10:20 am when we met to 9 pm after a lovely dinner, when we parted company.
'MANY grapes were hurt in the making of this film (and a few cider apples too).'
I am working 5 straight right now, so haven't had time to download the photos, but will do that soon...
Up a couple of pounds but not surprised. My favorite jeans are squidging my tummy, but I am working on that...

No worries about 'following up' on any comments I make, crashtested, hahaha, I just tell it like it is even if it may be a bit too much TMI.

You still can work out on P1 CenTXChk, just scale back a bit so you are not working on gaining muscle, just keeping status quo for now.
There is no need to work out maniacally like the Biggest Loser folks do. That's mainly for 'exciting TV.'

    Liana
  • Hi all, here's a couple pictures from our cycling tour: Start & finish
    Liana

  • Liana - Such great photos!! Thanks for sharing. Always exciting when you get to meet someone IRL.

Reboot is going well. Starting week 3 and have a little over 11lbs to go. Been able to stick to P1 100% so far. There is something comforting not having to worry about proteins for lunch and dinner. Just grab and go with my packets before heading out the door to work. Missing the gym but feel more focused this time than in January (last time I tried P1...and failed miserably).

BTW, my favorite jeans STILL don't fit! Gah!! They will won't even pull up over my thighs and butt. I thought working out was supposed to make things more compact! Patience grasshopper.
  • Hahaha, I know the feeling CenTxChk! My thighs & butt are the first spot pounds go on, and of course the last to come off. Shorts season will be coming to an end and there are several pairs I didn't even get to wear this year . Too much pudge trying to stuff the booty into them, and shorts that are tight around the thigh and butt are NO FUN when the temp is in the 30's/90's.
AAAAND, there are fall jeans & cords that aren't going to be worn either if I don't get smart.

I'm glad you are focused this round, maybe some will rub off on me. This month coming up work has slowed considerably (all the summer vacation condo security contracts are done and all the construction contracts are coming to an end too) so I will be sharing patrol with two other employees. That's OK by me as maybe I will be able to get back into my exercise routine at the pool. I lost out on 50 or 60 dollars worth of classes since my drop-in card expired before I could get my act together this summer. Of course the schedule was crazy and even on days off it would mean only 3 hours of sleep to make it to my class. THAT ain't happenin'! I need my sleep to function as a human - fibromyalgia means alpha wave sleep interrupts my deeper restorative sleep already. I don't need to add more difficulties to that.
Working out will make things more compact eventually, but first you will build the muscle, then the fat will drop. Hang in there! Think of the strength gains first, then the shape will follow .

  • Quick check in. Finishing wk5 of my reboot and have 5 lbs to go. Favorite jeans FINALLY are fitting again but a smidge tight. Have less than 2 wks to reach goal before heading out on a business trip (that is key no of a "fun" trip). I want to be back on maintenance for it.

Also have my 6mo post-op appnt from my skin removal surgery today. Scars are still obvious but looking better every month. I will probably ask for a quote and info on getting my arms and legs done...just so I know, but not planning to have any other procedures at this time.

Last week of P1 has been tough. Cravings are starting to sneak in and I've had a couple events where I left feeling deprived. Ready to get back to maintainence and figure out a way to not constantly be battling the same 10lbs.
  • Happy Friday Maintainers!

CenTXChk: "Ready to get back to maintainence and figure out a way to not constantly be battling the same 10lbs" I agree. I did my reboot and now am back up to almost 152, which is about 7 lbs over my happy place and what I lost on reboot. I am not going to do P1 again. I'm trying to stick with a Whole 30 approach.
It's always great when you can put on the favorite jeans and they fit!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm going to do my first night bike ride with one of my Meetup cycling groups. I'm a little nervous since I don't see that well at night, but we all have lights on our bikes and I'm familiar with the path, so it should be fine.
  • How did the night ride go, Andrea??

Just posting a very interesting (and somewhat heavy duty science) site many will find helpful: ketosummit.com
Register for free and they will send you the links to over 30 interviews with docs/scientists etc on the latest ketogenic/LCHF diet information/studies.
The encore interviews are free to view on Oct 5 and 6. Each interview is approx 1 hr long.
I've posted this in several comments but it's because I've been listening for the past week and it's extremely educational on many different related topics - neurodegeneration, athletic performance, diet stalls and helpful tweaking, easier maintenance, fixing metabolic syndrome, benefits and how-to's of metabolic flexibility, etc.

  • Hi Liana! Hope you are doing well.

The night ride went well. It was a short ride because the lady that I was riding with had undergone a chemo treatment that day (and still went out on a ride!) so we only did half way around the lake. One thing I did learn, keep your mouth shut... because bugs. This was very hard for me. I like to chat when I ride. But overall, it was fun and I didn't fall down!

You posting about the Keto Summit is so timely. I have been doing quite a bit of research on this WOE and have been reading up on Maria Emmerich (just bought her cookbook) and decided last week to give it a go. Doing P1/P2 just hasn't been working for me as I am soooo hungry all the time. In addition, no losses doing this because I won't stick with it. I've been doing Keto for a week and am down a few pounds but even better, not hungry. I'll keep checking in here because without IP I would never have gotten this far.

Howdy Catlady!! Your bike ride story really cracked me up - thanks for sharing it!

I keep promoting www.primalpotential.com for support in winning the mindgame... I think Elizabeth Benton's podcasts and tools are a great help to ongoing maintenance -- also a big help on the journey to lose the excess pounds.

Coming back here is important to me too - even tho it is hot as hoppin' and boppin' as it was 2 years ago - I still find support here.
    Hang in...
  • Hello Cheryl, CTC, Liana, Blue, Beth, Jenny and others...

I thought I'd do a quick check in. I started back on P1 at the end of June after trying a ketogenic diet and not losing. I really fought going back on IP after the richness of flavor on a ketogenic diet, but I finally had to accept that I know this works so I made the commitment and to no surprise, it is working its magic. I don't know exactly when I am going to transition to ketogenic lifestyle for maintenance but not quite yet. I am very happy with where I am at now though.

I am not in maintenance yet but thought I'd post here as I saw you guys here.

I guess I am a bit weird in that I didn't join this board until after I finished the weight loss phase and pretty much did the same thing this time around. I think there is something to just putting your head down and getting it done vs talking about it as I find I can get a bit OCD about it so I didn't feel like posting these past few months while losing as I had a lot of work to do to undo damage I did and felt time would go more easily if I just did it and didn't discuss. I went to a grocery store type clinic and picked up the IP packets and supplements - enough for a month or two at a time- so I didn't even discuss with a clinic or anything, just picked up products. I have only weighed myself, haven't had body measurements taken but I don't need them as I have mine from before and know I'm close in inches as before based upon sizes I'm wearing.

Well, it is good to check back here and see familiar folks. I'll be around more often
  • Ro - glad things worked out for you I know too you got VERY busy in the spring.
Everyone is different. I am in a clean up phase after allowing myself to get too loosey-goosey while training for multiple half marathons...every time I talked about it before, I psyched myself out...this time, I put my head down and bulled through the first couple days and am now just opening up

A couple of us from the boards have banded together on Facebook, if you have any interest...let me know & I'll send you a PM
  • Good to see you back Ro22!
    This ones for you Andrea:
