IP Alternative Drinks

  • Hi!
So I have been on IP for about 3 weeks now. So far, I like most everything I have been trying. As many others have stated, it is expensive.
I would like to try and save some money when it comes to the drinks and the bars. Spending $30 for 7 drinks or bars is a little beyond what I would normally spend.

Therefore, does anyone know of or used an alternative to the bars or drinks?
I have spent hours on this site looking for menus or alternatives but didn't see anything for these. As well, I went to the nashua site but not sure which would work.

I really liked the cranberry pomegranate, peach mango, orange, and chocolate drinks ( i haven't tried the pina colada yet). I love the peanut butter bar.

Thank you for any and all suggestions!
  • There are a lot of ideas in this thread
    http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/idea...-part-7-a.html

A good website to find products is Nashua Nutrition.
Most Quest powders are a good substitute for the IP drinks. The protithin and protidiet drinks are also good, also most of the Proti-thin bars are OK.
    Also Syntrax - Nectar drinks.
EAS Advantedge Carb Control - I think you can get these in many grocery stores.
The Quest bars mostly are not protocol since they changed the formula recently, unless you can get the Canadian ones (which are still the old formula).
There are others, but that should give you a start. Do check out the thread I linked (you'll see it's part 7, you can also go back to the earlier ones )

The most important thing is to check to make sure they fit protocol

---> how to pick an alternative product:

    - under 160 calories = Unrestricted (though MOST IP packets range from 90-120)
    - 160-200 calories = Restricted (once/daily)
slightly over 200 cals (or 30% fat) is super-restricted (once/weekly)
    - less than 30% cal from fat (multiply cals from fat x 3; OK if lower than total cals.)
    - under 8 g net carbs - unrestricted
    - 9g-16g net carbs - restricted
    - 17g net carbs - super restricted (only once/twice per week)
    - above 17g net carbs is too high to be good for Phase 1
    - at least 12-15g protein (don’t go much above 20g regularly)

    * NET = Total carbs minus fiber
  • Thank you!!!!!
  • Is there any particular drink that is as tasty as the ip? No after taste like the pineapple banana?
  • karissa - this tends to be a YMMV subject and everyone's tastes are different - that said, I've very rarely seen anyone post, either here or the Facebook groups, that the alt's are better than IP's - EAS Advantedge Carb Control seem to get very good reviews - but I don't think come in very many flavors.
I personally used Premier Protein chocolate / vanilla without a problem, but they are not protocol (30g protein - too high)
  • Does anyone have an opinion on these??
Protidiet Drink Concentrate Juice Variety Package: Peach/Mango, Wildberry, Grape, Kiwi/Melon, Green Tea/Cranberry, and Tropical Fruits

    Are these good to go?

    Thanks!

The Alternative thread posted above is great reading. It just takes extra research when you go to alternatives.
